Has anybody had a situation where a player contacts a JUCO and the coach -- just based off video in the email -- offers a spot immediately but is unwilling to speak with the player on the phone? Coach will only text and even then the messages are basically one word answers to questions.

You are likely to encounter any kind of behavior imaginable from a JuCo HC

Crazy and interesting.  Adbono's response that "you are likely to encounter any kind of behavior imaginable from a JUCO HC" seems to be holding true in this case.  This is extremely odd from my perspective.  I know we live in a technology world (I'm in that business), but I'd be very uncomfortable with how this HC handles his business.....one word texts?  Most recruits and their parents have no idea about recruiting and college baseball.  From the parent's perspective, I'd need a little more information and details no matter what level of college baseball we're talking about.   Call me old fashioned or whatever, but this is a people business at the end of the day.

Typically, coaches are on their best behavior in the recruiting phase.  I can't tell you how many people have commented that the coach was "different" when the recruit was competing for a job their freshman year.   It was as if the coach changed overnight into something the recruit had never seen before.

How can he offer based on a video?  Seriously.   Is this how he puts his team together?  This is like hiring somebody based off a resume with no formal interview process.   This is not a redflag....this is a dozen red flags.  Buyer beware until the HC can find the time and provide details about his program.

As always, JMO.

My son has experienced a full range of coach personalities. Obviously like every other recruit he's had his fair share of ghosting and unkept promises.  The one technique that is common to many coaches is, "call me on (insert day here) and we can talk about a visit" only to call and basically no answer. This JUCO coach is a bit odd as my son has asked at least twice to jump on a call just to discuss the program. Coach is unwilling to do that. He's had some amazing coaching interactions from all levels of coaches -- Zoom calls where they sell the program and one school has been precision with their interactions with him. Basically every week or so one of the coaches on the staff reaches out to him just to keep in touch, not to mention the personal post cards mailed to him.  Real pros and makes him feel wanted. But this JUCO coach is unlike anything I've ever witnessed.
