If you have some spare time on a Saturday night in Greenwood take a little road trip over to Wise's BBQ on Hwy 76 between Joanna and Newberry. Just a little old block building by the side of the road, but great food. It's mustard based, but not the sweet kind. Pulled pork, BBQ chicken, hash, and skins, if you eat those. ;-)
I LOVE Wises! Haven't been there in probably 15 years. I'm glad to know it's still around. Well worth the trip.

2B's dad's family lives in Clinton SC, and we used to go to Wise's all the time back in the day. Yum yum, yum, love that mustard based sauce! Have some of that hash with a side of Texas Pete! And don't forget the sweet tea! I believe 2B has had breakfast at Yoder's too.

When I first learned that Coach May's son was going to a SC school, I thought o m g, the poor thing will have to eat mustard based bbq! (just kidding, ... sorta!)

I have to admit never cultivating a taste for pork rinds. (sound better than skins I guess) My brother would take a paper bag, with grease splotches all over and sprinkle hot sauce in it, shake it up and have a enjoy a mini-feast. He's alive and well at 45.

MTH - there is a product called liver mush in the west and liver pudding in the east (North Carolina). Probably much the same. Mush was featured in one of Andrew Zimmeran's TV Network Show, Bizarre Foods.

yuck
Yeah, my father in law is 80 and still eats that stuff and stuff like hogs head cheese. But he looks 50, so maybe that's his secret. I agree, that stuff would gag a maggot.

I generally prefer vinegar and pepper BBQ as well, but there ain't none of that worth eating in Upstate SC, unless I make it myself. Wises is truly great mustard Q.
