A couple of years ago, when my then 13 yr. old, was really getting enamored with the idea of playing ball outside of his tiny realm, I stumbled across a web site that featured some local players. One profile listed happened to list the coach with a phone #. I called and got Coach May. This particular kid, who was taken by the Braves @ #92 overall in '03, had listed a certain pitching guru as a model he had used to learn from ,so I thought I'd try to get some info before purchasing his stuff. We rode to see a playoff game at Coach May's home field. Following the game, Coach greeted us with two of his friends, and their boys, very enthusiastically. The thing that struck me about that encounter at first was that they stayed and talked to us about 3 hrs. after the game. Looking back, the thing that strikes me about that encounter is what he said about moving up to the high school level. STRONGER KIDS & BETTER PLAYERS. "I don't care what you've done on any all-star or AAU team at 12,13 or 14, high school is a big jump". My son is a freshman at a 4A school in NC, in a league that is easily the best in the eastern part of the state. Unfortunately, he has been placed on the varsity, and I do not think he is ready for this level of competition. After 3 games it is easy to see what Coach May was talking about. these kids who have been on weight training programs are vastly different than even the very best we saw at 14u AAU Nationals. Sorry for the long post, but just wanted everyone to know that once you hit high school it is a much different game. Thank you Coach May.
