He is a great guy and you'll never see him hyping one of his own around here... but... he must be ecstatic right now and floating on air.

All his son Mike (a freshman shortstop at High Point) did was make First Team All-Tournament team in the Big South Conference. If my numbers are correct, the young man went 8-15, his first collegiate homerun (against #5 Coastal) with 5 rbi's.

Please welcome me in sending out huge congrats to Coach Merc and his family

Thank You guys !! It was a great week, very emotional as it was the end of Joe's college career at Maine and Mike's first post season. We had decided to catch the America East Tournament in Binghamton rather then the Big South Tournament because it was Joe's last. Well thank goodness Maine stunk ! (Joe was 4-7 in 2 games) because after they were eliminated we immediately made plans to head south and got there in time for the HP vs Coastal game. We were on hand to see Mike's first college HR and go 3-4 in both games we watched. (Yes I have the baseball)

Joe made 1st team All--America East Catcher (.363 12HR, 19-2B 58 Rbi.) and was the only Maine player named to the All Tournament Team. Follow that up by Mike having a great tournament and makining the Big South All Tournament Team. I became the brunt of a few jokes because of the tears in my eyes at times during the week.

Thank You all for taking notice. HSbaseballweb is the greatest.

Congratulations, and great photo! Who is the Coastal catcher?

MadDog - his name is Jose Iglesias. He is from Miami Florida and he is a great kid - if you can call being 6'5" tall a kid Smile He is on the Johnny Bench list for the nation's top catcher and I suspect he'll be drafted decently high in about one week.
