this is for all you wake forest fans and potential recruits, players and parents. My wife, son and myself spent a great deal of time yesterday with coach walters. this guy is the real deal. I really liked his approach, communication skills and leadership. He really impacted us in a very positive way. He is the best we have dealt with by far after many visits. He just has a natural way about him and he is sincere and intense. for all you WF players and parents you got a GREAT one. Your trouble will be keeping him there...He has a great career in front of him and in the end we decided to sign with a public university due to cost constraints. WF baseball program is going to really like this man.......

This is not meant directly at Coach Walters, as I know nothing of the man...

However, to come out and give an enthusiastic seal of approval for a coach where your son has yet to play a single day, is quite premature.

Over 1/2 the success in the game of college baseball is recruiting. Coaches get hired for a number of reasons, not the least of which is charisma and recruiting skill. The fact that the head coach at a D1 like WF is charismatic and can win over the hearts and minds of potential recruits and their families, is his job...and obviously he has done a good job.

I have sat in on a few recruiting sessions, and listened to HC's try and woo my son and us. Tell us all sorts of things...in some instances, whatever it was we wanted to hear, with no regard for truth or reality. It's just the way it is.

So for all those players and parents that think they got the right guy for a coach, I sincerely hope you do. However, it might be prudent to reserve judgment until Junior actually plays a season for him before you start handing out the accolades and rousing endorsements.

The guy who handed out the accolades is saying that his son will NEVER play for Walter. So, I don't see the harm in someone saying something nice about someone else as a parting comment. Hear, hear!

Me, I hear lots of good things, but I know nothing from first-hand experience yet. I'm just hoping all the good things turn out to be true!
