It sounds like he's touched many lives.
Here's some scope. Here's some of the family tree and the trickle down of knowledge and experience. I believe O'Sullivan (Florida) and Corbin (Vanderbilt) coached under Jack Leggett at Clemson. There are a couple more I can't think of at the moment. Leggett played for Winkin. Ed Flaherty, one of the most successful and respected D3 coaches (College Baseball Hall of Fame) in the country at Southern Maine played for Winkin. Several who played for Flaherty have become successful high school coaches. Flaherty has turned down D1 jobs so he wouldn't have to move his family. Mike D'Andrea, a very successful high school coach played for Winkin. He's the best high school coach in Maine. He's placed lots of his players in D1 and other college programs. That never used to happen in Maine on a regular basis. Right now two are playing in the SEC. There are other players who learned under Winkin and went into coaching. These three just came to mind. With just these three examples, look at all the baseball players who ultimately benefitted from the original inspiration.
When John Winkin passes there better be a large arena available for the funeral. It will be SRO. And when he gets to Saint Peter at the pearly gates, Saint Peter better have his hands in the right position to open the gate or Wink will point it out to him. The man is a intense, perfectionist. His players benefitted.
