A number of college coaches were commenting on how many travel team coaches , coach the bases in shorts and had really bad fashion sense. Non matching socks, shirt not tucked in and their gut hanging out.

They were tempted to throw ultra slim fast at the coaches who obviously were not missing too many meals. They also suggested please wear pants, it was scarying the younger kids at the games

Personally, I think it is ridiculous for coaches to wear uniform shirts or baseball pants at any level below High School. I much rather prefer the coaches wear matching short sleeve/collared casual shirts with a team logo and matching shorts.

That being said, the organization I coach uses regular team jerseys for the coaches pull_hair (obviously not my decision - see my sig link noidea)
I always wear shorts when coaching summer ball. Of course, a cold day is in the 80's out here, and we get days around 110 every summer. I don't care what others think, its shorts for me and my coaches. Shorts and a tee shirt is good enough for me. It isn't about the coaches, it is about the players. Heck, this summer we played 7 games vs. juco summer teams and most of those coaches wore shorts too!
During my son's Bambino (now known as Cal Ripken) years, the coaches wore matching shirts and shorts during the regular season but...they had to wear full uniform including baseball pants during All-Stars. Having seen both....I would have to say that I prefer shorts with matching shirts. Wink

One thing my wife can't abide in my coaching attire is white socks under my sandals. She says gentlemen don't do that and I reply, "Oh, many a gentleman does."

Krakatoa...

I agree with your wife...this is a pet peeve of mine too....and the socks don't have to be white...any socks with sandals is a big No-No in my book. Eek Eek Eek

You know...every now and then you post something decent. Something that makes me think, "Hey, maybe he isn't mentally challenged after all." Then you post something like this which makes me doubt myself. Will you please make up your mind?
My 2 cents: Coaches should wear baseball pants (down) and a polo shirt in the team color, preferably with a team logo. Not a full uniform, but not just "street clothes" either. I don't like jeans, shorts or (shudder) cutoffs - I think it looks sloppy. A team jersey without baseball pants just looks wrong. I don't like to see full uniform on a coach, though, either. So, pants a shirt that says "business" but isn't a player's jersey is the compromise that I like best.
Connie Mack...dressed in a 3 piece all wool suit with a starched shirt with a celluloid collar and tie..........in the dugout.......and I can guarantee his shoes were shined.

Now I cant speak to the practicality of the outfit for baseball, but I guarantee he got respect from the umpire when he went on the field to "discuss" a call.......of course back then the Umpires wore suits and ties as well.....
