Now that W&M has hired Coach Pinzino to lead the baseball program. Has anyone heard any word on the new assistants?
I assume the remaining assistant will stay. I think there may be one position to fill. Unfortunately Pinzino couldn't begin that process until his own promotion was approved, but I suspect he'll have it done by the time fall practices begin.

Per the W&M website, Brian Murphy is the new Assistant, most recently an asst. coach at Brown. Also coached at Bryant.
So they now have the coach that will be in charge of the hitters. I would assume Coach Pinzino will also hire a pitching coach. Wonder who he has in mind for the pitching job? Any good guesses?
Is Coach Murphy the volunteer assistant? Because they seem now to have 2 hitting coaches and no pitching coach -- unless Coach Pinzino is going to be his own pitching coach.
Coach Miller's name no longer appears on the W & M webpage.
That must have just happened.
Pinz has his hands full that's for sure.

I guess that answers my question, too.
That is unfortunate for W&M to lose a talented coach. I saw a few W&M games last year early in the season, and heard from several people that Coach Miller was a very good coach. From what I saw, he was a very aggressive third base coach.
We liked him at the camps, as well.
Seems like maybe he could be a head coach candidate somewhere?

All of our dealings with Coach Miller were very good and positive. Hopefully, he will land somewhere good.
Coaching Carousel continues, this is the latest.

Kevin Casey, Jason Tower Join Tufts University Baseball Coaching Staff
MEDFORD - Kevin Casey and Jason Tower have been hired as assistant coaches for the Tufts University baseball program. The announcement was made by head coach John Casey.
Kevin Casey is a 2009 Tufts graduate who started 141 games as an infielder for the Jumbos from 2006-09. He was a two-year captain whose 118 runs scored are sixth on the all-time Jumbo list. From 2010-12, he was an infield coach, recruiting coordinator and hitting coordinator at Daniel Webster College. During his tenure there, the Eagles enjoyed their three most successful seasons and earned their first NCAA Tournament berth. Kevin is the son of Tufts head coach John Casey.
Tower is a 2009 graduate of Eastern Nazarene College, where he played baseball four years and was a senior captain. His coaching experience includes last season at MIT and two years (2010-11) at Lasell, as well as working for the RBI Academy since December 2010.
The positions on the Jumbo baseball staff opened following the departures of assistants Brian Casey and Bob Kenny.
****Brian Casey, a 2007 Tufts graduate, left to become an assistant coach at Division I William & Mary under head coach Jamie Pinzino, a 1997 Tufts grad. ****
Kenney, a 2005 Tufts graduate, stepped down to handle the role of equipment manager for all of Tufts' sports programs.

Watched the first (optional) practice yesterday at W&M. The guys sure are happy to be back at it with Coach Pinz at the helm.
Did all of last year's recruits return? I heard that one or two moved on. Any info where?

I believe all the 2012s stayed, plus a JC transfer and a couple walk-ons trying out. I did hear there way be a 2013 or 2 weighing other options, but that is only rumor, so who knows...
In talking to my son it didn't appear that anyone didn't show. As dblemup said, there were a lot of 2012's there. Something like a dozen or so...
One 2013 who did look at options due to the longevity of the coaching search is "re-committed" to W&M - Chase Bailey. He's excited about Pinzino becoming the head coach. Not sure about other 2013s, but sounds like most are "in" from what we've heard and they even have a couple of 2014 commits already.

Thanks for the info. Looks like the program stayed intact with the change; a good thing. Apparantly the only casualty was a 2011 who decided to move on.
I'm confused. Earlier news had 10 2012s in their recruiting class. Only 7 freshmen are listed on the roster. Did these unlisted 2012s go elsewhere?
Seems a little odd. I see several players not listed that I know are there. Heck, one of them is my son's roommate so I KNOW that he's there and practicing...
Maybe its just that they are not done updating. In looking at things it looks like none of the bio information has been uploaded for any of the freshman that are listed so it could be that they simply aren't done inputting all the data...

It appears they are not done updating the roster. They added a few more player names and I know of a couple that are on campus, practicing and not listed yet.
One 3-yr baseball player has switched sports and is now on the basketball roster as a Senior.
Former W&M coach Frank Leoni was hired as the new baseball coach at Marymount University in Arlington, VA. Marymount baseball will be a first year program that will start play in 2014. They will compete in the Capital Athletic Conference which will consist of teams from CNU, Salisbury, Mary Washington, Frostburg,St. Marys, York College of PA, Wesley DE,Southern VA, and Penn St-Harrisburg. Good luck Frank.
Any word on where they will play...field-wise?
They will play at Bishop O'Connell
I haven't been to O'connell since the field was redone, but it must be some renovation since the original field was ridiculous!
I thought Southern was a NAIA team. How can they be in a NCAA league

They renovated the football field, not baseball field. All they did was move RF fence back and lay some new sod in the OF...not the whole OF, just sections. It was still rediculous this past season. A disgrace of a HS field. There was a plan to redo the baseball field, but neighborhood shot it down apparently. Maybe they did something this summer. I'll swing on by a see...report pending.
Sounds like a scheduling nightmare for both Marymount and OC...Either way, nice to see Coach Leoni land somewhere. Hope it works out for him.
The word is that Marymount will invest 400,000-500,000 into the facility for upgrades.
Well, I had a chance to drive by Bishop O'Connell today and in fact they are in the process of a complete renovation...MUCH needed and VERY good for them...
Nice article about W&M Coach Pinzino, his wife, and their respective season's successes:
