I have to say best of luck to Coach Hughes as he pursues his next endeavor at Va Tech. Any Va Tech fans that are here, rest assured you are getting a coach who is a phenomenal recruiter, and expects excellence from his players both on and off the field. Your program is going to be in great hands. Best of luck to the Hokies in 2007!
TR,
As usual you put a negative spin on a comment. Pete leaving for another team in the same conference is hitting the road. The fact he told his players, is classy at best. Having just released a player from his scholarship and then leaving not so classy.

I got the word from a Va Tech recruit, he called all of them also, back to being classy.

Pete was one of the good guys from the recruiting process...

Great news for BC. Had the opportunity to congratualte him personally as he was at our event on Saturday and Sunday. He should do a great job... AS far as Coach Hughes, he's got his work cut out for him at Va Tech. The program has needed achange and he could just be the shot in the arm it needs... I'm sure we'll see him in FL in a few weeks....

Good luck to both....
Mike Gillespie retired as the coach of the University of Southern California and Chad Krueter, his son in law, was immediately hired as his replacement.

Krueter was most recently a minor league manager in the Rockies' system and was a catcher for the Dodgers and a few others. Perhaps best known for starting a near riot at Wrigley when a fan grabbed Krueter's hat while Krueter was sitting in the bullpen.

No offense to Krueter, but putting aside the son in law connection and much speculation as to why this went down given that Gillespie had 2 years to go on his contract and had given no previous hint of retiring, most in Trojanland do not appear to be thrilled by this hire.
It's like you have been planning a marriage for a year and you finally walk up to the altar, only to find a bride waiting there that you have never seen before. We would be happy to see Coach Rooney offered and accept the job. That would ease our minds greatly.

I saw an article from Virgina that former ND coach O'Connor might be interested, also.

Life is full of surprises.

Your son is experiencing every player's worst fear...choosing a school and having the rug pulled out from under you. I really sympathize with your situation.

My son visited ND on the ND vs. USC football weekend and had a great offer from them. They were in his "top five" list when it was time to make a decision where to attend college. He ended up choosing an SEC school with warmer weather. We could have easily been exactly where you are right now.

You sort through all the information and make your best decision, hoping you're weeding out the BS. You chose a great school, but this turn of events was in no way imaginable to us when we visited the coaches at ND. How can you predict the unpredictable? We sure didn't get any signs that this was coming when we got to know the coaches.

Even though the staff will be changing, I know that ND will do everything possible to help the current and incoming players transition. You have to believe that the solid staff at ND will support your son while they hunt for a new coach. He's still attending a fantastic university with a baseball program that will land on their feet. Have faith and know that things will work out in the end. You're in our thoughts.
