I am a freshman playing for my varsity team this year. The coach and I get along pretty well and I was wondering if I should be asking him to start helping me get in contact with college coaches. I know he has helped a couple other players from our school get scholarships. Any help on if this is the right time or not is greatly appreciated.

Congrats on Varsity. I would say it is a little early to have your coach involved. As you read and look at this site you will see that the responsibility is yours to get recruited. Look at the recruiting timeline link on the Site Menu this should give you some guidance.

My opinion is that there is no need to contact colleges yet but you can do somethings to prepare for it.

1- GRADES...you will learn that by having a strong GPA it will enable you to be recruited by more schools...the more schools the better!
2- With Grades comes academic money as well as athletic which means to a coach you are higly desireable.
3- Go to the college websites and learn about the school and the program.
4- Play on competitive and well respected travel summer and fall teams that attend Perfect Game Events and other showcases.
5- Read the articles on this site and learn about the process.
6- Remember there is no one way to be recruited, what might be right for one person may not be for you. Everyone has an opinion doesn't mean their right or wrong but take it in and evaluate it for yourself (including what I've spewed on this page).

Best of Luck in your Season!
