Grateful-
I'll take that as a compliment...thanks. Basically, moved to GB with the promise that my wife would get a job - not sure why, but they won't hire her (they say it's the masters degree she has, but we covered that in my initial interview). Not sure we can leave yet this fall...but I have to look to take care of my family, you know?
Got any other options in Michigan, believe me I'm listening! Thanks buddy - Coach KNight

Looked at South Meck, but they don't have any teaching jobs in my area (social studies / PE) as far as I know. I'll check again soon - thanks.

Coachric-
Like Florida...but the pay for teachers is way too low. Wish that wasn't the case - great place to coach and work with kids, but with the salaries they pay teachers, I'm not sure I'd make it! Thanks though - I appreciate the input.
Coach Knight, all due respect, but thats an old lame argument. My cousin is a teacher. Let me know how many years you have in and I'll give you an idea if they transfer here. Pay increases are now regular and comparable to many places around the country. With the lower taxes and cost of living, it usually evens out. The stats you will find do reflect lower pay because of the great teacher shortage, many are 1st or 2nd yr teachers and they are paid accordingly. I have many family members in a school district in new england, and the average teacher has like 10-12 years experience, so a higher pay scale is reflected in the average stats. With the higher taxes, those 10-12 yr teachers really don't make any more than florida teachers, and I've looked into this often. Again, just some fodder for conversation, and I wish you well with whatever you decide.
Hey Coach. After doing some checking you'd be in the 45-47,000 range as a 9 yr with masters and coaches stip. The pay really jumps in the 15th yr and 20 yr guys are doing 65 with masters and coaching. 45K in florida after taxes is about 37K. In R.I. you have to make 53K to take home that much. I am sure that varies state to state. To make 53K in R.I. you have to be at least a 12-14 yr tenure. There are some coach openings here as well.
Anyway, enough BS on this, good luck in Mecklenburg county, very good baseball area.
