Could anyone share information on Colby College, baseball wise. It appears as if their record the past few seasons has not been great, but is this just the result of playing in a very competetive league? All input would be appreciated, especially from those of you who are familiar with the nescac.

Here is the scoop on Colby:

Located in Waterville, ME
Average SAT is 1360
Students --roughly 1800 +/-
Does Not off B.S degrees--Bachelor of Arts only
Median Class size is 16 students

BASEBALL:
Head Coach Tom Dexter is entering his 14th season-- have always found him to be a gentlemen

NESCAC is a tough Division III conference --all the schools in the conference are on the same high academic level

They were 6-25 last year--is it because of poor talent and bad coaching-- In my opinion I think not--just a tough conference and one of those down years in a down cycle--it happens to every program--keep in mind that due to the academic level across the board in the conference all the schools tend to draw the same type and level of student/athlete--

If you want solid academics and solid baseball Colby is not a bad choice

OH!!! one other note for you-- I see you are in LA-- it is a bit colder in Maine during the baseball season

I hope that this helps

Happy New Year
Lima; I have not been up to any games at Colby yet.I know that they had a down year, and are not considered a top team in the NESCAC. But,I would imagine then that there is playing time available and that should be considered. Like TR said, it can be cold up there in April. Have you considered any of the other schools in the conference? Or is there no time to change the process.

Thanks for your post. I have also applied to Trinity, where I visited last year with school, but have not really spoken with their coach. Colby has really been the only NESCAC that has shown much interest and I love the league as a whole. I know the top teams in the league, like trinity and williams can play top level ball, but is there a huge drop off to the teams that were less successful, such as Colby? Much appreciate your help as it hasn't been easy getting much of an idea for the Nescac out here in California. Thanks!
Limatime,
I am the poster with the brother at Tufts.

As for Colby, I thought they were the weakest team on Tufts' schedule last year. The talent was just not there. The drop off in the NESCAC from the haves to the have nots is pretty drastic. Tufts, Trinity, Wesleyan, Amherst, and Williams have always committed serious resources to their baseball programs....full time coaching staffs, good fields, solid indoor facilities, and heavy recruiting. The other schools need to step up if they want to seriously compete.

One NESCAC school recently made the move up in the ranks. Bowdoin hired a very good coach from Brandeis(can't remember his name). He's had some very solid recruiting classes, and they almost won the NESCACs last year. It doesn't take much. If Colby, Bates, Hamilton, or Middlebury commits to really building up their programs, they should see the results.

If the Colby coach is contacting you frequently, it is a sign that he is at least making the committment to recruit for players. I'm sure that the A.D. at Colby has seen the success at Bowdoin. Maybe Colby is on the way up, too.
