If you are aware of any hurricane college students who may be in Virginia, please pass on this information (just received at work from Dept of Ed):

John A. Blackburn, Dean of Admission at the University of Virginia, has asked us for assistance in conveying the following message to any Virginia student currently enrolled in one of the colleges and universities now closed because of Hurricane Katrina:

"In view of the horrific damage to many of the college campuses along the Gulf Coast, the University of Virginia will welcome students from those colleges and universities which are now closed. We will enroll Virginia residents from those institutions and make every attempt to register them in the classes they need. They will be treated as visiting students and non-degree students. Housing will be provided in University facilities.

Our classes have been in session for a week, so it is imperative that we move quickly on this. Accordingly, would you please provide to me as quickly as you can the names, addresses, e-mail addresses and phone numbers of graduates of your high school who are enrolled in these colleges and universities. I will then communicate with them within the next few hours about making arrangements to start here this week."

If you know of college students who may be eligible to take advantage of this opportunity, please let them know. The telephone number for the UVA Office of Admission is (434) 982-3200, the e-mail address is undergradadmission@virginia.edu and the fax number is (434) 924-3587.
