Can anyone with experience talk about the college baseball camps? A few colleges have sent us letters saying that they will not take on a player if they have not seen him play. We live in Texas and our son does not really want to go to a Texas school. His select team will play in East Cobb, so he will get some exposure there. There are some schools in the northeast that he is considering. Are these college baseball camps worth spending the money on?

The quality of the camps varies from school to school, and some colleges use them more as revenue producers and less for recruiting, while at other colleges the opposite may be true and they use them a lot for recruiting. Perhaps you can post questions about specific camps and people will have had some experience with them and can respond on here or via private message.

Also, if you can talk about the particular schools your son is considering, people may have information about the best ways to get exposed to those particular colleges (e.g., which showcases they tend to focus on, etc.)
We found camps a great way to evaluate the programs and the coaches, while taking time to tour the college and learn about its academics, too. You can also make a strong impression if you hustle and play well while there, but for us, it was more a chance to be a face in the crowd and see what they were like when they weren't "putting on the dog" for a recruit.

Some experiences were good and some were bad, but the bad experiences were important, too.

But you need to do some research in advance. Pick no more than 4-5, otherwise you'll go bankrupt!
My son went to the Pepperdine christmas camp. Well run, all the coaches were there (good guys). They did take at least one kid from the camp, however they knew of him well before the camp.

We also know several kids that went to the Santa Clara camp. Again, they did take a couple of kids from the camp. I don't know if they were tracking them before the camp.
