I always wonder ... what make you a NCAA D1 player, a D2 or D3 and NAIA, JUCO etc.

What speed the pitchers throw in each division?
What is the pop to pop time for a catcher?
What kind of batting average in senior season do you need to reach a D1... maybe they just look at your technic!?!?
What about the infielders and outfielders arms and skills?
DO speed is a thing really looked by the coachs?
And ... Academic succes is it really important for the coach?

So ...
What skills make you a good player in each divisions!?

Lots of questions and unfortunately not a lot of concise answers can be given.....

Pitching speed...Ive seen D1 pitchers throw in the '90's....and D3 pitchers throw in the 90's....I've seen D1 pitchers throw '80s and NAIA pitchers throw '80s....Speed alone does not guarantee you D1/D2/D3....what Im saying is that there is no chart like this:

90-95 D1
85-89 D2
80-84 D3/NAIA...

its not that simple...

High school batting averages are not a good indication of ability since the quality of competition can not be verified and the very nature of High school hometown scoring render the stats suspect.......

My point is I have seen newspaper accounts of games I have umpired where a player is said to have gone 3-4........but I know that at best it was 1-4 with 2 errors.... hometown scoring....

Speed is a prize commodity.....can't deny that. If you got it, it will help. If you cant field or hit, it wont help much.....

Academic success.....this is baseball, which on the D1 level has only 11.7 scholarships to pass along to 25, 30 or more players.....this is not football with 85 or so scholarships to use.....A baseball coach does not have money to waste on someone who will not be academically eligible........Grades are important.....

As far as skills, I have seen players with exceptional skills at all levels....again there is no chart or line that determines what level you make....its not just skills.....

This is what makes college recruiting such a tangled web...there is not just one set of numbers to judge,.....there is so much more....make up, how you project, character, attitude.....ect...

Im sure you will get more responses but my advice is to work on what God gave you....if you can run, great!! But work on your hitting and fielding...but don't neglect your attitude, your conditioning and your grades....you can make your self more attractive to a college!!!....

best of luck....

I agree with piaa ump. I have seen the full gamet of players in each division.

So IMHO and short answer to your question is; who has seen you? The old adage of "if you are good enough, you will be seen" (except for the top 1-10 % of players) is simply not true. I've known players who can play DI, but ended up DII, JUCO, simply because they didn't showcase or weren't seen by DI coaches.

And yes, grades are important.

Hope this helps.
Thank you for the answer even if it is not really easy to give an exact answer to my question. But my big point is that I live in Canada... so its really hard for me to play in US showcase plus Id really like to partcipate in showcase this fall but the petrole price is to expensive now almost 5,20$ the galon so its really hard for me to decide to put all my cash in petrole for only a week end. But Im really considering to find out for the next summer a team in the northeast or maybe somewhere else. I want to establish my self for the summer long in your country but I don't know if it is possible.

Next thing ... theres a lot of Quebecers that are playing in US colleges but I really wonder how they did...

One guy I know just leave for Galveston JUCO TX in August and Id really appreciate to ask him how he did ... but when he ll came back it will be to late to apply for a college.

Id also really think about ask help with COLLEGE SELECT ... TRhit but for the moment I dont have a lot of money to waste...

The thing now its that I need to know how I can choose good prospects colleges, in wich division and if it will be good to play for a US summer team (if it s possible). Because next summer here in Quebec I have good chances to play for the Junior Leauge (18-22 best players in QC) I'm turning 18 this summer (June)... But no scouts can watch me here and in the team I'll probably be the third catcher or second... depends on the one who had signed with the New york Mets and the other will be 20yrs old.

So any suggestions or comments will help me so much...

And if any informations on me are needed Ill be glad to help you... I've very good athletic and academic qualities. and here in Quebec we only have 11th grades so I suppose to be a senior but I'm in a school (like pre-university) that there's only here in Qc.

I really need help ...
Because I dont want to waste my time in Quebec... Sooner I can get away, sonner Ill feel good. I'm tire to play agaisnt the same guys every year to go at school with the same people every year ... I need something new... And I want to live abroad of Quebec and discover some new places...

Im very determinate!

xFK7x : You may want to check out the website 'SLAM! Canadian Baseball' It tracks Canadian baseball players in the pro's and in college.

Armstrong Atlantic University in GA has recruited a number of players out of the Vancouver BC area along with a number from Australia.

You posed some good questions and the responses have all been good and necessarily vague. There are no simple and easy answers.

Sorry about those high petrol prices. Your gallon is larger than ours if I remember correctly, but I imagine that a large part of your price is taxes. Even more taxes than we have to pay.
The key is to be seen and sadly it does not happen North of the Border--you have to come to the US and be seen

We have had success with Canadien players over the years and currently we have two on our roster.

Presently we have one boy in his second year at LeMoyne and another beginning his college career at NY Tech- we also just had one boy from Nova Scotia finish up his career at Longwood as an Academic All American and another at SUNY Albany who did the same

It all comes down to being seen so people know who you are
Here is a link to the stats for Grissom High School in Huntsville, AL.

http://www.hsv.k12.al.us/schools/high/ghs/sports/baseball/stats.htm

Morris and Martz are being recruited by Auburn (Class of 2007).
Reese is at Troy University in Alabama.
John Daly is playing at a Junior College.

These numbers may help you a little.

By the way Grissom made it to the elite 8 in the 6a (Alabama's largest schools) playoffs last season.
