That is a great question, one my '05 son is also struggling with.

If it were me, I would make a list of colleges that I am interested in AND that are interested in me.

The If that list is too long (nice problem to have) I would prioritize them as to which schools I really want to attend. You have to be realistic here, I may want to attend Stanford, But can I realistically get in and are they really interested in me or did they just send a form in response to a letter that I sent.

Then decide how many I can realistically attend and go from there.

I know it is a lot easier for me to write then for you to actually do, but that is how I am guiding my son.

Some things to ponder;

01-- What schools soliciting for their camps have valid interest in you? Have they been talking to regularly by phone? Have they personally invited you to attend ?

02-- Are they D-1 Camps ? If so are you D-I material?

03-- What schools have you applied to ? Now is the time to make sure your applications are sent in regardless of baseball--don't be left out in the cold!!!

04 --What do you expect to get out of the camps? Instruction or exposure?

05-- What have exposure have you given yourself previously? Showcases? Travel Ball? College Camps ? If you have done this and been pro-active and still have no interest it might be time to look in the mirror and re-evaluate your situation before you continue to spend big monies on camps that make bear no fruit for you.

BOTTOM LINE: Be realistic-- things do not usually just drop out of the trees and into your lap--- you have to work to make it happen !!!!
bouwhuis36basebal,
Are you planning on staying in state for school? The top baseball camps in your area are:
1. UofM
2. Notre Dame
3. MSU
4. Central Michigan
5. Western Michigan
The objective of these camps is to make considerable money for the program/coaches and scout talent. Do not waste your time or money on schools you have no interest in. Shortlist your favorites and practice quick starts and hitting. Unless you are a pitcher.
Our son applied for early decision and was accepted at his first choice school. He chose this school for it's academics. This is a Division 1 school and he knew the chances of him playing Division 1 were a little slim. The hubby and I both knew by choosing this school that this upcoming year would probably be his last season and I have to admit it makes us a little sad. Lately people keep asking him if he's sure he knows what he's doing, they seem shocked that he's not going to play somewhere. He decided to attend a 2 day camp at this school. He said he would get some great instruction and he said it wouldn't hurt for him to meet the coach. Sometimes when you least expect it they show you they are growing up! We are very proud and will enjoy the senior year.
bo from Grand Rapids.....

You might also want to check with some of the smaller schools in your area.....the closest ones being Aquinas College, Calvin College, Hope College, Grand Valley.......then look around the state more.....Steve already listed some of the big schools.....Michigan State also has a camp in the winter; it is a good one, too!.......then you can look at schools such as Hillsdale College, Spring Arbor University, Siena Heights University, etc.

Feel free to send me a PM to ask about the Michigan schools if you would like.
A couple more that used to be pretty good MI baseball programs & camps: Wayne State U. and Eastern Michigan U. My older brother was friends and went to high school-(Wayne Memorial High)with Pat Sheridan of Kansas City fame. He attended both schools briefly. Once, I went down to see him before the game at Tiger Stadium when they were in town. I was about 15 yrs. old (maybe 1978?). He introduced me to George Brett. It was pretty exciting for a 15 yr. old.

Anyway, it has been years, but next to U of M and MSU; Wayne State, Eastern & Central had the best programs.

I am somewhat surprised that someone has not responded to your question as yet. I know nothing about Michigan camps or pitching camps in the midwest. But there is a forum on this website devoted strictly to baseball camps. It is the third forum under the ANNOUNCEMENTS heading on the opening page of the message boards. Try some of the topics on that forum or ask your question there as a new topic.

Good luck.
