Colleen - It's a good sign. You'll find during the process though that some of the schools interested will call your son's HS coach while others will never make a call to him. I think the college coaches vary in using HS coach as a reference due to a couple of things - relationships they do or don't have with him as well as some college coaches don't really care what anyone has to say about a player - they only want to see for themselves.

True, the college coaches want to see for themselves the baseball skills a player demonstrates, but our experience has been, they also use hs and summer league coaches as a "character reference", i.e. is the kid a leader, a hot head, a playmaker, etc. College coaches know they're more likely to see someone at their best at a camp or clinic. Reliable or not, they often ask the coach for an assessment of the player's everyday contributions to the team.
