Hello forum, I have a few questions regarding my career path in baseball..

This fall2013 I will be a 21 year old sophomore at San Antonio College located in San Antonio, TX. I currently play second base for the baseball team and am extremely interested in coaching baseball at the college level.

My major is Kinesiology and after graduating from San Antonio College with my Associate's Degree this coming Spring I will either attend the University of Texas at Austin or the University of Houston to obtain my Bachelor's Degree.

What are some steps that I need to take to become a college coach? I know that there is "Graduate Assistant" positions and things of that nature but let's be realistic, who is going to [hire] a kid with no prior coaching experience?

How do I get my foot in the door?

I just can't seem to get any good help or advice from my coaches or anyone else.

All input is greatly appreciated,

If you are going to try to get your career started, your best bet is to inquire about a student assistant or manager position. However, big Division I schools have a lot of people ask about those positions.

There are many small local colleges nearby those schools that would be interested in a volunteer coach. Jucos, NAIAs, etc. You won't make any money, but it will be a good way to get your foot in the door, and may get some more experience. Either way is up to you.

Will you play baseball at the U of Houston or Texas?

You may wish to join the American College Coaches Association. They have their convention in January 2014. There are over 1,000 college coaches attending.

You may be interested in playing and coaching in Australia.

There over 20 American playing and coaching Club baseball in Perth, Western Australia.
