I'm just kind of throwing this one up in the air - I have some ideas, but what can we baseball parents learn as the football players commit and sign?

CFB signing day coming up Wednesday, with all its ESPN and other media coverage.

I'm a big college football fan (and basketball too) - and I observed NSD a lot heading into our sons' recruitment.  I thought there was stuff to be learned.

Any thoughts on this?

JBB,

I'm not a big fan of the NSD media coverage for football and basketball.  Frankly, I would be embarrassed if my kid acted the way some of these young men do. But that is my opinion.

Lessons learned:

1) The "golden rule" is real.  Those that make the gold, make the rules.

2) This country has lost its mind.  This NSD media coverage has become a reality TV on steroids.  I don't watch anymore.  It doesn't interest me based on the current format.

3) Showboating gets far great attention than substance.  I'd like to see far more attention put on the athletes that excelled at their sport plus community service, academics, etc....I want to see these guys are something more than an athlete.  Show me their humanity.

I realize I probably sound like an old fart. but I can live with that.  As for the rest of the country and NSD for athletes I wish them well.

fenway - I agree with you 100% about the media and all the hyping.  But its there and I can't seem to do anything about it.

I was thinking more...since there is coverage...that we could learn about some of the pitfalls of recruiting.  And some good strategies and lessons too!!

See the link below about a kid who was cut off with 1 1/2 days to go by a P5 school because their 'priorities had changed.'  He was a very early commit (last summer) and never wavered.  The kid was 'Mr. Football' in South Carolina!!  It just shows that it can happen to almost anyone and we've seen these types of stories relayed about baseball commits here on the hsbaseballweb.
