Given their overall record, that's tough to argue.
Winning 2/3 of your conference games will often land you in, or close to, first place. Right now they are behind that pace, but only a tad -- one strong weekend could square that up pronto. It's too early to draw any real conclusions.
I suspect what you're seeing is the combined effects of weather impeding workouts, having to travel for what were hoped to be home games, improvement in some of the opposition (esp. as to Pitt and VT compared to last year), and having a batting order that is freshman-heavy.
I congratulate ODU on a win that's a big deal for the program, but really no different from 1-2 years ago when Radford won at Charlottesville. Midweek games involve pitchers who are still finding their way, even more so in early March. You never really know how they'll turn out.
The last few years have taught us that UVA will be at or very near the top of the conference standings and the national rankings by the time May rolls around. I don't see anything going on up there that leads me to think this year will fall short of that standard.
