College of Charleston, memeber of the Southern Conference had a 2006 record of 46-17 and a conference record of 20-7.
Head coach worked under Jack Leggett at Clemson and will someday head a major baseball program.
They made post seaon, up to Super Regionals, losing to Georgia Tech, play a tough non conference schedule.
I think this is one of the better smaller programs located in the southeast. My sons former team mate attends and is very happy. I also like that they do not overuse their pitching staff.

I've heard the same thing about being a party school. Charleston is a great town to visit. I can see how one would have to be disciplined about the distractions near campus.

I am not offended but there may be parents on this site whose kids go there that might.

Look, imho every school is a party school to one extent or another. How many people out there think that drinking does not go on at every college in the nation? Does anyone think they party at Duke? Pretty good school that I never heard anyone say was a party school until they had a LaCrosse party - or was that the first party ever held at Duke?

I had people come up to me and ask me how I could send my son to a "party school" in Myrtle Beach. IMO the question was designed as a dig and my answer is the same to them as it is now. If you go to school looking for a party, you will find one. If you go seeking an education, you will get one - regardless where you may go.

RE: CoC - my son's team was 1-1 against them this year and I know they were nationally ranked in some polls. From my viewpoint, they have a very fine baseball program with excellent talent and coaching. I don't know anything about their academics but I am sure you can get a good education there if that is at least partly the reason you are going to school there.

Many people told us that Clemson was a party school.

What, in the middle of nowhere, good gracious it was true! Partying is reserved for Thursday, Friday, Satuday nights though, back to studying Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Football weekends, dawn until dusk! Alumni and staff included! Big baseball weekends, you got that too (baseball players excluded). That's just the way it is! Big Grin

Come on folks, partying goes on in EVERY school, big or small, every conference, every corner of the US!

In the end, it is sending your son off to school with the hopes that he will do what he has to do, on and off the field. Smile

TPM, appreciate the sentiment, but there are schools where you can find the party, and schools where the party WILL FIND YOU.

All large U's have parties going on and if you want to find them you can, of course. At smaller colleges, the question is, do you have to go looking, or is the culture omnipresent?

As for Clemson, I hear good things about the academics, great things about the baseball, and I hear that young heterosexual males will enjoy the scenery immensely. True?

It's in the South isn't it? Why do you think boys from the north want to play sports in the south? Baseball is baseball, but baseball with "scenery" is a bonus. My son loves watching SEC & ACC games and I don't think it's to learn anything!!!
My son has no serious interest at this moment or hardly has. For him he found it difficult trying to balance his bb schedule and maintaining good grades.

My point is, unless we have direct knowledge, hard to judge what is hearsay and which is fact. And when you send your kids off to college, don't THINK for one moment they don't go looking for the PARTY or the PARTY doesn't come to them. Smile
This thread reminds me of a recruiting story from personal experience:

Just before my baseball-playing son finalized his college decision, he was going down the list with me of pros and cons between his final choice and another program that was high on his list. After he'd rattled off quite a few of the "usual" items, he said, "...and you know, Dad, UNC has a ratio of women-to-men of 2-to-1, while the other school's ratio is just the opposite." It didn't take long for me to reply, "You know, son, that's a good point!"

Somehow, I suspected that this factor was higher on his list than the order in which he'd chosen to mention it to me! Wink
