There are so many variables to be considered here that it makes it very difficult to provide you any answer.....

Some (very few) things to consider....

Talent level
Potential Draft status
Position played
Maturity
Financial considerations

And there are so many more.....

Each case has got to be considered on its own merits....what seems right for one may not be right for another.....Best of luck to your friend....!!

Basic principle to follow,

Will you get enough money going pro to pay for your college education if it (going pro) does not work out?

And if it does not work out and you go to college will you still be happy not being able to play college ball since you went pro and are no longer eligible to play college ball ?

Those two questions are the most important ones in my opinion.

Boston,
There has been many discussions on the HSBBW regarding the pros and cons of what you have asked. Do realize one thing, no matter if you are drafted out of HS or college, neither is a guarantee that one will become a major league player.
This is a personal decision and I think that your "friend" needs to explore all options.
Best of luck.
