For those of you who have sons playing in college, do the coaches call the pitches or the players?

They do call pitches where my son plays. After the season gets going, if the coach and pitcher get on the "same page" then most of the time the catcher and pitcher get to call the game. Depends alot on your experience level.
Our son's coach calls the pitches. They are permitted to shake it off...but then must accept total responsibility for the results. 
In my short tenure as the father of a college pitcher/catcher I think it is a combination of the pitching coach, catcher, the pitcher, and sometimes even the head coach. The pitcher NORMALLY has the ability to shake off or “wipe” to another pitch... but if his selection is wrong he will be held accountable. Sometimes the catcher will look to the dugout for directions. Sometimes the catcher is given the responsibility and the authority to call all the pitches. Too many variables to say this is the way things are...things can change with the importance of the game, the importance of the inning, and even the importance of a single pitch.

I think the Coach calls all pitches at first and then, depending on success allows a shake-off with the understanding you take resposibility. Why not? they keep such a consise book of the other teams hitters that calling your own it is just something else to worry about. It worked out well as he was able to practice the "situational" aspect of the game during summerball. Why question someone who has probably forgot more about the game than the kid knows. Plus, you can turn around and blame the pitch selection on someone if it does not work well. 
Thanks for replies. I asked this because I was surprised to find out from the coach that they do not call the pitches (coaches), only when pitcher is not confident and catcher is a little lost. The reponsibility is given to them right away. The philosophy is that they have to learn to trust their pitches. They have to learn what "their best pitches are in order of strike % and their out pitches vs right and left handed hitters". They have to learn that it is the location of the pitch, not the specific pitch that gets the batter out or not. Since the coaches pretty much know the hitters of the teams (conference and non conference), knowing what I do know of the coach, I am sure they are well schooled in advance of each hitter.
