My son graduated college Sunday.  It was a fantastic weekend.  We were talking on the 8-hour drive home about many, many things.   One of the things that came up was the post season coaches (written) survey.  Every year he's been asked for his feedback on the coaches and the program.  He declined to fill it out until now.  He (now) knows for a fact that the survey goes directly to the AD and he privately reviews with each of his head coaches during the summer.  I guess this is a way for the AD to get "honest" thoughts about the program.  I'm not so sure the AD is getting all the honesty he wants as my son thinks only seniors are filling these surveys out.  Underclassmen may feel uneasy about providing honest feedback.   In years past, other seniors have shared their opinions and comments with my son which he kept in confidence....he's not the chatty type.  This was the first year my son offered his opinions.  He kept his thoughts focused on the facts (provided examples) which I told him was the way to go.

Is your college player provided as end of season survey (or something like it) about the program and coaches ?  If so, did he do it every year or just senior year?  Thanks.

Son's team went to a post-season meeting presided over by a rep from the AD with no coaches present.

Players were given a lengthy survey, which they filled out in a proctored environment.

Did not happen in previous years.  This year the coach's contract runs out and there is a new AD.  I don't know which factor prompted the new process, if it's routine, or whether it will affect the contract renewal decision.

Thanks for the feedback.  This can be a powerful tool if genuinely used to improve a program or weedout problems.  It can be a way for the AD to get a 360 degree experience from everybody on the team.  The AD knows not everyone is going to be happy, but he coukd spot shortcomings, management issues with other coaches, or any possible NCAA violations before they happen.  I'm kind of surprised more programs aren't doing something like this (only a few responses to the thread),

Swampboy - I like the methodology you've described.  If it is done in a soft manner (mandatory but in a nice way...)  and retaining anonymity.  Son's experience was optional and mailed to AD.  Bottom line is I'd want feedback from 35 players (or more for D3) not just those that chose to fill it out (seniors who've received degrees already). JMO.

Again, thanks for responding.
