Hi ya'll! Just wanted to share a little bit of the horrors of college recruiting--especially for you smaller guys that will probably not go to D-1. My son was recruited by SEVERAL schools from Community College up to D-1, all made promises, and told him the reality of what "could" happen. One D-1 school offered him money but he didn't feel it was the right fit, Some D-2 schools called and talked to him at lenghth, as did a couple D-3 schools and a few community colleges. He was convinced that he could compete for a position at a nationally ranked D2 school. His freshman year was great- no one expected much. but he got a start (as a pitcher) and many releif opportunities. When the next season rolled around for what ever reason- he had fallen from grace, got a couple relief appearences that faded until he was sent to the JV team. The following year he was a reliever on the JV team only to be cut down to no appearences- only throwing bull pens... Now he has quit the team and given up Baseball. of course as a parent it breaks my heart-and I often wonder if he had gone to a lesser school- would he still be playing?

There are certain questions you should ask your sons as they look to play at the "next level"--the "what-if" questions. There are ALWAYS going to be players that are better and worse, can they deal with the rejection of it all? My son has had a hard time- but I think his overbearing father has had a worse time coming to grips with the reality.

My son has made the best of it - staying at the school he has chosen not wanting to chase around to see if he can make a team somewhere else-instead choosing a quality education. He knows that few are invited to the show-- and the "pre show"- and many of them miss out on an education to chase rainbows.

I don't know if this will help anyone but sometimes I think a little bit or reality may save someone from a whole lot of heart ache later.

thanks
