We have been following the College World Series (Go Gamecocks) and keep hearing about all of these boys that were walk ons in college. Can someone explain how so many obviously talented players were not recruited out of high school. The only thing I can come up with is they played at schools with alot of talent or they have improved tremendously since their high school days. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Diva ...

An added note ref players like Kurt Suzuki at CSUFullerton ... Fullerton has an illustrious history and is presently THE premier baseball school in So Cal. (Hopefully my fellow Big West fans won't be offended by that statement ...) They have many recruits who are drooling to get the opportunity to play ball there and can "stretch" their 11.7 scholarships across the board well because of it ... players are willing to go there just for the opportunity to play baseball for the Titans.

For Kurt Suzuki, their catcher from Maui ... well, playing at U of Hawaii would not have given him nearly the opportunity to succeed at such a high level of competition as he has had this season at CSUF ... and to get drafted in the 2nd round ... All the Big West fans are happy for him and share a little So Cal pride in his season and success ... Smile
