arizonared,
Congratulations to your son. clap

I had not subscribed, but after reading on-line about a special issue spotlighting athletes including DIII, I ordered a copy. It arrived yesterday & I quickly reviewed the DIII section in hope, by some chance, to read my son's name. However, of the twenty-six (26) left-handed pitchers listed(some multi-position), though he had a national ranked ERA & finished his freshman season by being named to the All-Conference Tournament Team, I guess his overall season performance didn't get him on the radar screen to be spotlighted by the DIII baseball coaches. This just reinforces how valuable that degree is when baseball is over.

Anyone have a take on the key factors determining selection? This may go back to the string "After High School-College Baseball Stats" about what do coaches/scouts look for in pitchers. Since several top 20 national ranked ERAs didn't make the list, what am I missing? ERA + K/BB + K/9innings + wins/loses? Player's height/weight & velocity? Would team's last post-season appearance add consideration while lack of post-season appearance at Regional or above be considered?

Southpaw Pop.....don't know the criteria.....(and my son is an MIF)......but gotta say....based on the season you described for your son last year, as a freshman.....congratulations to him too! Sounds like he had a great year....

Polls, reviews??? Probably still a lot of guess work.....would rather see what happens in the Spring.....

Congrats Arizonared,
I too subscribed thinking my sons picture was going to be in the CBN as his coach told me they called and asked for a photo of him. He led DII in ERA this past season as a freshman.
Turns out it was the NCAA that called the AD and I guess someone got confused.. Does anyone know of any NCAA publications that this may be in??
Thanks in Advance
MOUNDMASTER
arizonared: now that is awfully nice information for the parent of a freshman to receive. Congratulations! Hope the Spring is as fun as the preseason has been.
SouthpawPop, I would not be concerned. Coverage of DIII is very sporadic and, for preseason, less than completely accurate on a national scale. By and large, preseason publicity is based on the teams success the prior year. If yours was not in the CWS in Wisconsin or playing for the title game in a regional, it is awfully unlikely there will be any preseason publicity. It is not because it is not deserved, it is just there are too many teams and not enough ways to follow them and even less resources to follow individual players.

I accept your take. If a player weren't already on the radar coming out of high school & his team didn't get to Regionals or CWS, they could have been overlooked. I noticed some players listed from our conference do have past post-season appearances with exception of another 05/06 sophomore. However, his making the list is well deserved, no question!
