Go Bulldogs.

I don't need you to tell me about Starksville. I have been to super regionals and beyond, no matter where you go the atmosphere is electric this time of year.

The Tigers got robbed, they beat Mississippi last year's regional, they'll do it again, no matter where it is played. Smile

Same goes for the West Coast, And surely in Texas.
Everybody beats each other up.
If your good enough to make it threw the Regionals, then you deserve it.
It comes down to who's Hot at the right time.
Good Luck to the Teams that are left.
It should be Fun to watch.

While I am not sure it can be repeated, and for a certain poster it might not matter, CSU Fullerton was spectacular in winning the San Diego regional. Their execution in moving runners, hitting or sacrificing, and executing in scoring situations was just spectacular.
This is a very different Fullerton team from past years, but you can see how well coached they really are. Pitching, defense, offense, and executing in situtations: they played 3 games as well as I have seen.
With them hosting UCLA, one of the top two teams in the nation won't be playing next week, despite the BA rankings.

JB,
I do think that FSU deserved to be a top seed and Tigers did not really deserve a regional spot BUT, they proved they deserved the super over Mississippi. They beat FSU twice, won all 3 games in their conference tourney and all 3 games in NCAA post season and well above the bulldogs in RPI.

Teams fight and scap to get home field advantage for regionals and supers.. The greedy NCAA gets gate $$ and they liked the fact that there were more seats to fill and committee chair convinced them as such. Guarantee you that on friday, first day, more tickets would have been sold in Clemson than will be in Starksville. There is NOT one entity that I know of, from baseballamerica to ESPN that thinks that this choice was wrong, so I can't be missing something.

Deldad, the issue of the flag was most likely not awarding 3 teams from the state of SC a regional not super regional. BTW, I enjoyed being at the beach much more than I would have Clemson this time of year, Big Grin THAT was a fair and good choice by the NCAA. GREAT PLACE!

I do not follow the west coast teams as much as here in the east, but I will bet both coast schools are tired of beating the heck out of each other. Eek In the end, my idea of regionals and super regionals are schools paired in regions to meet in Omaha to have a represetation from all over the country. What the heck is OSU doing at Virginia or Michigan in Tennessee? Someone explain that to me?

Wichita State has unbelievable team speed and they execute well. Their pitching staff, while not overpowering, is solid and they pound the zone with low strikes. Having said that I know a couple of Anteaters so I'll be pulling for them. Roll Eyes

ASU has so many weapons and will probably be the odds on favorite to win it all. Since Brian Flores is a New Mexico kid, I know TR will be pulling for them to take it. Cool

Good luck to all the contestants, especially those with parents here on the HSBBW.

Sorry to object but... I have a bias here... CU only won two games in the conference tourney... otherwise they had played 4... Did you forget Wake's win over Clemson????

And being from the west coast and seeing both sides of the country play ball...

IMHO, the Top few West coast teams can compare well with the Top of the East... but teams 5 thru 10 in ACC and SEC out distance any other conference....

SDBB:

A couple of things:

1. The bottom four teams in the Pac 10 include Oregon State, USC and Stanford.

2. Willy Fox, a star in the ACC, could not get on the field at ASU.

As a 1977 graduate of Virginia Tech and with a son who played in the league, I love the ACC, but I must say the Pac 10 by nearly any measure consistently plays the best baseball in the nation.

That said, it is all great.
SDBB,
I think we need to recognize that Oregon St finished 5th in the Pac 10 and beat Virginia, ranked in the top 10 nationally and in the top 3 in the ACC. To think that OSU, Washington, WSU, Stanford, and USC are "outdistanced" by Maryland, Duke, and the similar ACC and SEC schools just does not compute, for me.
The bias against West Coast schools shows in Cal being denied a regional berth as the 4th place Pac 10 team. Their Friday night guy, Tyson Ross, may be the best pitcher in college baseball, as a sophomore. While I agree that the bottom of the WCC and Big West are not on a similar scale with the ACC/SEC, that isn't true with the Pac 10.

6th place (infielddad was being kind when he said 5th) Oregon State beat top-10 UVa. That statement doesn't hold up.

I fully respect the ACC and the SEC. Just want that well-deserved and earned respect back from the selection committee. The West proves their quality year-in and year-out in the CWS.
Spizzle

My only relationship to New Mexico is that my son went to college there---in fact his first start was in Tempe against ASU

But I have ties to Michigan so I root for them and Louisville in int he Big East, I am a Big East Grad, so I root for them also--just a baseball fan wanting to see great baseball which we will have
Since 1947.

If I divide up the country and consider:

West: AZ, CA, OR
Midwest: OH, MI, IL, MN, etc...
NE: NY, MA, ME, etc..
SE: FL, GA, SC, NC, LA
Middle-South: TX, OK, KS

So...since 1947, here is where the national champions have come from:

West - 30
SE - 11
Middle-South - 11
Midwest - 6
NE - 1

Or even another way to look at it:

West of the Mississippi - 44
East of the Mississippi - 15

The West deserves more respect than they get...spoken by a "left coast DADDY!" Eek

Go Anteaters!

You KNOW I'm a 'Skin!!! I'm a fan of the Trojans because my uncle lives out there (just off the other school's campus) and has innundated me with USC propaganda since I can remember. I seriously thought about moving in with him and going to USC though. Frown

And the answer to your trivia question is Munoz. Wink

EDIT: I answered before seeing your second post.
