Collegiate Baseball's pre-season poll is out. Not that I put much weight into an early poll but fun to discuss.

I am very happy to see St. Johns so high. I have a bunch of friends on that team and they are all very talented. Hopefully they have a good year.

On another note, I don't put ANY thought into the DIII poll. There are some teams on that list that have no business being in the Top 100, and there are some teams not on that list that have no business being outside of the Top 10.

As you said though BOF, still fun to discuss during the dead period of the offseason
Stanford, ranked #3 pre-season, has 6 players BA has ranked in the top 100 for the 2012 draft, with 3 first rounders, including the #1 projected pick in pitcher Mark Appel.
The only reason they don't have more is they are likely to start 3 sophomores who are not draft eligible until 2013, when 2 of 3 are likely to project as 1st rounders and the other a possible 2nd/3rd rounder.
The starting left fielder, Tyler Gaffney, is not only projected to be a high pick for baseball, he is one of their top running backs on the 4th ranked football team.
Gaffney brings a football mentality to the baseball field. He makes a big difference.
Said more succinctly, Stanford is loaded with talent!
Of course they also have a 56 game schedule considered one of the very toughest. Weekend series, at home, against Texas, Rice and Vanderbilt to start the season. Nice to have season tickets this year. Roll Eyes

Didn't Stanford have someone like this just recently on the team? I want to say they always have baseball players who are studs on the gridiron playing.

Yeah, I believe Toby Gerhart played outfield for Stanford as well as starting running back.

You would be correct! Also the last time Stanford made it to Omaha where Toby hit a home run in Game 1...and I got to take this picture of the swing! Smile
