I was curious to know the typical process with regards to finding a collegiate summer league team. I am a HS senior and committed to a D2 school. The school doesn't exactly have phenomenal summer ball placements; however many teams in their conference do send their players to well regarded summer teams. I was wondering how do I get my name out there to summer ball coaches? Is it something I need to be proactive with or is it more up to my coaches and the reputation if the college baseball program I am heading to?

Here's what we experienced. Sons are at a D1 and they were hooked up with a summer collegiate team/league by their college coach in the spring of their freshman year. I think summer team coaches want to see how you perform at the collegiate level before offering you a position. Unless you're a high-level stud right out of high school, I don't think you'll get an opportunity to play in a collegiate league this summer which is what I suppose you are referring to. I would suggest finding a spot on a team (legion, travel, whatever you have in your area) where you can stay sharp at your position throughout the summer and workout with some type of regimen. Your college coach may have a workout plan he can give you. Either way, you'll want to show up in the fall in the best baseball shape you can to compete for playing time. Once you're on a collegiate team next summer, you'll get placed that fall for summer 2015 based on your summer 2014 performance. Good luck!
