Hello everyone,
Happy Thanksgiving to all. Well, I am a 21 year old senior, playing on the club baseball team at my university. Basically, we are a lower level college team competing in the NCBA, completely ran and funded by students. Our schedule consists of playing the local junior colleges, as well as other universitys' club teams. Can pretty much say it's the JV team to our actual D1 NCAA program.
Anyways, I've been playing for this team for the last two years. I will be a college senior at the start of next semester as I graduate in December, 2014. Anyways, after I graduate, I will have one year left of eligibility remaining for NCAA and/or NAIA. Because of this, I would like to pursue playing NCAA/NAIA college baseball as a masters/graduate student, even if it is only for a year, perhaps at a smaller D2 school, or a really low-key/lesser known D1 school. I have pitched decently well for our club team the past two years, as my fastball is currently in the low-mid 80's. I have begun a velocity improvement program, where my goal is to reach upper 80s by our spring season.
The last two summers, I have pitched in the Arizona Collegiate Wood Bat League. I have pitched decently well in these leagues as well, as the league is comprised of mainly juco, d2, d3, with some sprinkles of D1 players in it, but it's one of those pay-and-play leagues where almost anyone can play.
Anyways, the main reason I posted in this forum is that I would like to pitch in a good summer league in the 2014 summer season, as I really want to test my abilities to play at a higher level. I have good control of my pitches, and have had coaches and scouts tell me that. In an honest assessment, I could say my current talent level is that of D2 competition. I understand those "good" leagues are from invites and coach's recommendations only, but is there any way I can still get into those leagues? I'm not talking about Cape Cod or Northwoods, just something kind of in between the AZ League and those really really standout leagues. I can definitely provide some coaches references, and videos if needed.
Would anyone else know of any leagues that is a bit easier to get into? Or how I can contact a coach for those leagues, or how I can get an invite? It's very difficult with club baseball, as we do not have a coach, it's completely student ran and funded, as we only have a "player-coach." Would they allow NCBA players to play in those leagues? Like I said, I plan on trying to play at a higher level of baseball as a graduate student, and would really like to test my abilities in good competition this upcoming summer. Once again, I can provide references and videos if needed. Preferably in a league (if I do have to pay), that doesn't exceed a fee of more than $500.
And I'm sorry, I know this is a high school baseball forum, but I have seen plenty of college questions asked on here as I have used this site for references multiple times throughout college.
