Any info on Columbia ? Academics, baseball program, etc.

I am not trying to put you on blast but you live in NY and you are asking about Columbia's academic reputation? Get on the LIRR and take a trip uptown and take a look around. I am sure TR can give you more info about the baseball program especially since they changed coaches.

Pretty good school.
Columbia is an Ivy League program. If you do not have GREAT grades you will not get in the front gate.
Paul Fernandes is the new/old coach. He coached there for many years before giving it up a few years ago to become an administrator. When his replacement left he retook over the program. Paul is a old-fashioned fair-minded baseball coach, who I have the utmost respect for. He is a class individual who cares about his player welfare as well as trying to win ballgames.
Obviously, all the Ivy schools are an excellent education.

Being born and raised in NY and having a dad who was a professor at CCNY in uptown NY the location doesn't bother me
That being said once on the campus you are in another world--Coach Fernandes is a great guy and has been at Columbia as baseball coach, AD and now baseball coach once again.
They do a solid job recruiting and are quite competitive within the IVY League.
As for the academics they are tough to beat.

Although all Ivy league schools offer a great education, they also offer very different ways to acquire the great education. Columbia College has one of the most rigid set of requirements of the eight Ivies - its core curriculum is both celebrated and feared - depending on your outlook. Make sure you look at the academic requirements for graduation in the course guide which should be online. For example, Yale requires 36 courses rather than 32 courses for graduation (which means that a student must take five courses, rather than four, one semester each year - and APs can only be used for acceleration and not as credit), Princeton has Junior and Senior thesis requirements, and Brown allows a student to take most non-major courses as Pass-Fail. If you're interested in Ivy academics, you must do your research, otherwise you may be surprised (pleasantly or otherwise) with the education.
By the way, I grew up on the upper west side of Manhattan, and the Columbia campus area has expanded and become a much more lively, exciting and safe place to live than years ago. The fact that the baseball field is a good bus ride away is something else to consider. And the wooden seats are less than comfortable for watching the game - but if you are a long ball hitter, you'll like the 'stadium.' I'd also question whether Columbia is actively looking for a new baseball coach - my guess is that the present coach is an interim replacement for Aoki - albeit a fantastic coach.

the only field i have ever seen anywhere that has a shorter center field than the rf line and lf line!

In my talking with Coach Fernandes whom I have know for some 10 plus years I did not get the feeling he was an interim coach-- he has been at the university too long and I do not think he would have left the AD position for an interim baseball slot--

Talk about short porches!!! I saw my nephew(Cornell) play there a few years ago. Second game of D'hdr was 24-23. If I remember correctly there were 7 HR's hit in that game
According to the PR release from Columbia, Coach Fernandes has been Associate Director of Athletics (even when he had been baseball coach previously) and will remain in that position while taking on the head baseball coaching duties.
Columbia's current AD has resigned effective in June, or sooner if a replacement has been found.
