Coaches, have any of you found a solution to the times when your team comes out flat? There's no drive, no fire. I know each team is different, personality and chemistry wise, but Almost inveriably this has happened to teams I've coached ,even State Bound teams. I've also heard other coaches say they experience the same thing.

My attempts have gone from offering rewards, to using extra conditioning. I would be willing to try anything that has worked.

I managed a 17-18 team for 15 years. I learned alot over those many years. I discovered the best way to keep my team from getting stale/flat, all the while getting them ready to play a game, was to switch up the pre-game routine. Our games begin at 6:00 P.M. Players are expected on the field at 4:15 for B.P. They are asked to show up at 4:00 to get stretched and ready to go. After the first few weeks of this, especially when the MD summer started to hit, I started to change things up. Here are some of the things I tried that seemed to work:

1. Cancel B.P. and infield practice.
2. Take abbreviated B.P. and infield practice, then play flip before the game.
3. Have a HR hitting contest.
4. Bring popsicles to the field for the team.
5. Work on other aspects of the game or specialty areas instead of usual pre-game.

I guess what I am trying to say is that it is difficult to maintain the same level of focus all the time. Changing a person's environment can have a positive influence on their behavior.
