Thx for this. My son is a very good hitter, but one thing gives him trouble -slow pitches! Getting him to slow down and wait is like pulling teeth. He's never behind on his swing, always in front (if not right on). Something to work on.
It drove me nuts as a coach when hitters complained a pitcher was too slow. It beats the hell out of facing too fast to hit. I would ask them if they hit ok in batting practice. Why? Because you wait.

A mindset to drive the ball to the opposite field can help this.

Another part of the mindset angle is self confidence. True belief in one's abilities provides the calm before the explosion. All great hitters have it.
Lot's and lots of hitting drills varying front toss or those parents with ability "pitching" speeds. I love the hitting drill of hitting 6 inches in front of the plate, on the very front of the plate and in the middle of the plate to build hitting depth.
Good Tips! Thx folks! Can't wait for Spring Ball !!!!! My son is recovering from an injury , but making progress and should be able to start practicing in a few weeks-and we will be sure to have him start hitting Oppo off the T . and other Mindset drills !!!
