Anyone know when the tryouts will be for the Central Region Team? Also, is this an invite only or will it be open?

The North tryouts have typically been the last weekend in May, about the same as the regional finals. Usually, about 60-80 players try out. They make cuts and bring back 35 or so the following weekend.Coach Covington from Potomac HS has been in charge of the North since the games were started about 18 years ago. The tryouts have been at Potomac HS for as long as I can remember.

To tryout for the North, you must have your HS Coach or a pro scout's recomendation. There is a form that must be filled out and signed by the coach to be able to tryout.

The Central's coaches last year were from Hanover and Powhatan HS I believe. There are no tryouts. You are invited and if you accept are on the team.

The west had an earlier tryout than the North.

I don't know anything about the East.
A few years back, my son sent a letter to coach Covington, along with the profile he sent to college coaches, asking for chance to try out. He got a phone call inviting him, subsequently made the team, and felt that Commonwealth Games Showcase was the best he attended by far. Lots and lots of college coaches (approximately 100 when we were there) , players are treated really well.

Be pro-active. My son and one other valley player, both wholly unknown to the northern Virginia coaches, were selected, so it's not a 100% good ole boy system as some fear.
The North tryouts were completed on Sunday. They started with 100 kids, cut that down to 32 and then 16. After each region's tryout, they end up with 80 total players. My nephew found out he made the team last night. With only 16 kids, a lot of kids have to play a position and pitch. If you pitch as well, you have a better shot at making the team as a result. Good luck - games are July 9-11.
I would get in contact with the coaches asap and let them know what the deal is. I would think that they would have some knowledge of legit players and give the opportunity for players to tryout later (i.e. this Sat or Sun) if they get bumped out of states this week. JMO.

If they continue on in states, hmmm. Call and get answer from coaches.

If kids are verbally committed I was told that those players can't tryout.

WB.....if you get answers, please post.
The Commonwealth Games web site does state that the games are only for uncommitted players. This makes sense in one way because the Games are to attract college coaches. But in another, it makes no sense in that the Games advertise that there will be college coaches AND pro scouts there. You would think pro scouts might be interested in a few of those who are committed. Also, excluding players who are committed prevents it from being a true challenge of the Eastern versus the Northern Regions etc. Guess it goes back to the question of what is the purpose of the Commonwealth games.

I guess it depends on how they define committed then...since the oldest players would be rising seniors, they may have verbally committed, but they couldn't have signed an NLI...

I am sure there are some players on the teams that have verbal commitments...

Congrats to all who make the teams!
