Brooke Point defeats Mountain View
In an upset Friday night, the Black-Hawks defeated the Wildcats in a thriller played at Mountain View High School by a score of 2-1.
Sophomore Brooke Point pitcher Evan Houde threw a complete game, scattering 4 hits and allowing only 1 unearned run, with 4 strikeouts and 1 intentional walk. The Wildcat batters were held off balance by a good mix of changing speed pitches and stellar defense by senior catcher Ryan Frye, Senior first baseman Tony Cox, and junior center fielder Brian Hudson whose stunning over the shoulder catch in center field ended a Mountain View rally.
Ryan Frye and freshman second baseman David Dilegge led the offense with 2 hits each, with Dilegge getting the game winning hit.
Mountain View was led by a good pitching effort by senior Corey Rivera, and a strong performance by sophomore Jake Vanhutton, who contributed with the bat and on the mound in a relief effort.
This was an exciting game, as Brooke Point picks up it's first District win.
Amazingly, this game was not even covered by the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star, which manages to cover just about everything else. Especially when Brooke Point is beaten.
All in all, a great effort by the young Brooke Point squad, against a very solid Wildcat team.
The Black-Hawks visit Riverbend Tuesday night.
