After 2 years waiting in the wings, my player finally has the opportunity to catch.  And he's doing a lot of it.  The problem is his off season didn't include a lot of rigourous catcher specific conditioning (ie; played a lot of basket ball and general conditioning).  His legs are taking a beating.  So I am looking for exercises/advice on conditioning for catchers.  Stuff that really works the legs.  Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance.

Dynamic warmup plus general lower body strength training routines (lifting).  Spend some time on the  hip abductor, aductor. Don't forget the core and lower back.  Some typical exercises would include, squats, lunges, RDL, roman chair lifts, walking lunges w/twist (w/ or wo/ a medicine ball throw), calf raises, crunches, superman's, planks, etc.  You'll also want to follow up with a good stretching routine and maybe include foam rollers.  My son (2016) is learning to catch this year but he's been lifting (for football mainly) for the last two years so his legs are holding up well as a catcher.  He has noticed some tightening in the legs and back due to the position so he's concentrating on lower back, glut, and hip work (stretching mainly).  That has worked very well, the foam roller especially.
