I read a thread on this board from '06 that gets me close, but I would like to make sure I fully understand the issue, particularly if there are any Post-8/1/08 rule changes that impact the situation...I'm a CPA and the NCAA rules are harder to follow than the Internal Revenue Code...
FACTS: Son was a recruited walk-on in football to mid-major DI in the fall of '05. Got injured and never played in a game. Had surgery in both shoulders late '05/early '06 when he left DI school to attend a JC (top-10 baseball program in CA) beginning in spring '06. Decides to switch to baseball (a pitcher), but rehab not fully complete for '06-'07 school year, thus is not on team in '07. Takes 9 units in fall was of '07 and is playing on the team this spring (his first college participation). Was full-time student (good grades)in all semesters but fall '07 (i.e., 5 of 6 semesters). Another consideration, which has just been raised, is to return to the JC next school year which would translate to the six-year plan for college (which would require a VERY persuasive argument)...my main concern/confusion is meeting the "progress-toward-degree" requirements to either a DI or DII program either in the Fall of '08 or (less likely) '09...Thanks for any insight.
