Bases loaded, one out. Bottom of last inning.
Team at bat is down by two runs.
Hitter gets base hit to right field, tying the game.
As the players on the bench congratulate the runner who just scored to tie the game, the hitter/runner, who has already touched first base, runs over to join in - just outside of the dugout. (This player thinks that his hit just won the game, instead of tying it.)
The coaches then holler at him to "get back to first base!".
He does so.
Then, the opposing coach starts yelling that the player on first should be out.
There is a rule that says a player MAY be called out for "leaving the baseline, obviously abandoning his effort to touch the next base."
What's the proper call?

the following happened here last week in a HS state sectional championship game

tie score, 2 out, bottom of 7th inning, winning run at 3B - umps, an experienced? 2 man crew

batter hits a line drive which drops in shallow RF - runner comes home - batter dances down 1B line doing everything but back-flips, including removing his helmet in celebration

plate ump is watching runner at the plate, 1B ump is heading off the field when a roar goes up from the visiting crowd - - - the RF had picked the hop & threw a strike to 1B!!

after a conference with the PU, he explains to the visiting coach that he can't call an out he didn't see- GAME OVER, & season over for the visiting team

later when questioned about the call by media, he suddenly remembers that the 1B pulled his foot on the play

yikes??
