Congratulations to the Oregon State Beavers!!!! And congrats too to NC and all the teams who made for a great CWS in 2006.

Oregon State showed the heart's of champions becoming the first team ever (well with the new format after all) to lose two games at Omaha and come out on top. they also set a record in facing 6 elimination games in the tournament.

If it is of interest, below is a history of the CWS (and some of my west coast biased comments).

It is of note that 6 of the 9 Pac 10 teams that play baseball have won the CWS with USC leading the way with a record 12 championships (Go Trojans).

Throw in Cal State Fullerton and Pepperdine and that's 8 teams from California/Oregon/Arizona that have won a total of 30 of the 60 CWS that have been played.

Ohio State is the last Big 10 school to win, in 1966. Wake Forest is the last ACC school to win, in 1955.

Texas/Miami/LSU have accounted for 15 championships between 'em. (Did I mention that USC alone has 12).

Not taking anything away from anyone else (rest easy ACC and SEC fans)...but why is it that the West Coast teams still don't get enough love when the selections come out? At a minimum, Washington should have been in there too this year. Mr. Lincecum would have wreaked havoc with some top-20 team. As college baseball fans...we were all deprived of seeing his magic worked from the mound on national TV.

justbb- I think there's a bit of east coast bias in most all college sports. football and basketball rankings usually "tilt" to the east too. Maybe just the time differences and alot of west coast teams don't get seen in the east.

Interesting, in D-3 baseball of the 31 world series played dating back to 1976, 4 have been won by California schools and 1 by an Oregon school.
In that division the east/north/northeast have dominated with E. Connecticut and Marietta, Ohio leading the way with 4 championships each.

justbb- BTW, how's Eric doing? Hope everything is going well.

beezer- don't see my Trojans making a big splash next year. They have unfortunately been on a bit of a downward trend of late and not done a whole lot since their '98 CWS Championship. The 06 season concluded with a monumental skid over the last month or so.

Next season they look to lose their #1 pitcher who was drafted 1st round and they likely look to lose their #1 recruit who was also taken in the 1st round.

Their coaching change, with Gillespie leaving and son-in-law Chad Krueter being hired does not seem to have been too well accepted so far in the land of Troy.

Most of all, the Pac-10 is always tough and in Los Angeles, ucla presently seems to be leading the way

But at least the baseball team isn't leading the conference in arrests like their football counterparts so there is always hope.
