Saw in local paper that former WA coach Dave Rowell was inducted into Il HS Baseball Coaches Assn. Hall of Fame.
Coach Rowell was at West for almost 30 years, won a bunch of regionals/sectionals, had a few teams go downstate and had 3 players drafted in the top 5 rounds - 1 (Rich Becker) was in the bigs for 7 or so years.
He wasn't a screamer but usually got his point across to kids - he always treated his players, their parents, coaches, the opposition, umpires etc. with respect and professionalism.
He was always mindful of players health, grades, attitudes (suspended some kids in spots where alot of coaches would have looked the other way) and was a very good role model. Congratulations to Dave Rowell on a fine career as a coach & educator.
