20-year old Casey Crosby was named to the All-Star game, too. Not bad for a kid not even two years from Tommy John surgery.

A left-handed power pitcher from Maple Park Kaneland, Crosby was expected to be drafted far higher than the fifth round. But that's where he went, to the Detroit Tigers, in 2007. After prolonged negotiations, Crosby signed in mid-August that year for $748,500. However, he didn't pitch as a pro until August 2008 after undergoing reconstructive surgery on his throwing elbow. In a limited and closely monitored return to the mound, Crosby made three relief appearances last summer in the rookie Gulf Coast League. Still regarded as one of Detroit's top prospects, the 20-year-old is off to a strong start this season in the Class A Midwest League. In his first 11 games – all starts – for West Michigan, Crosby is 4-0 with a 2.83 ERA. He has struck out 56 in 47 2/3 innings.
