We talk about young men making a career in baseball. Putting two and two together, it appears Robert (son of Prepster) has made a big career move in his very young career by being named pitching coach of UNC Wilmington. Here is the tweet by Aaron Fitt of Baseball America alluding to the promotion:

I remember writing a feature on Woodard, Daniel Bard, Andrew Miller in 2005. People said back then Woodard would make a great coach someday.

Another former #ACC pitcher moving up coaching ranks: sources say former #UNC star Robert Woodard likely to become #UNCW pitching coach.

Please join me in congratulating Robert, Prepster, and his family

Congrats to Robert and Prepster. That is awesome news. He'll do a great job. It is going to be even harder to get a "W" against UNCW in the CAA in coming years.

PS..I was checking HSBBWeb as I normally do every morning and I noticed Prepsters avatar had changed to UNCW...but I couldn't find an announcement. I had a feeling something was up!

Friends,

Thank you so very much for your expressions of congratulations, support, and confidence in Robert as he moves into this next chapter of his career.

Thanks to you and many others like you who contribute faithfully to this website, the "Roberts" out there find continuing direction and support as they continue down baseball's winding path. The value of your guidance and encouragement has meant a great deal all along the way to him and the rest of his family.

Meanwhile, the transition from one role to the next is a brief one. He texted me last night to say that he'd already left on his first recruiting trip. I just chuckle and shake my head.

Again, thank you so very much!

I am so happy for Robert and Clayton. Some of the best times I have ever  had at a ball game have been standing with Prepster and watching UNC games. Especially when Robert was pitching. Robert is UNC's all time wins leader and was undefeated while pitching at home. Of course that game he pitched vs Clemson in the CWS I will never forget. But most of all what a classy young man. I wish all of you had the opportunity to meet Robert and Prepster. Simply awesome people and I am so happy he has come back home!

The sincerest thanks to each of you...along with an apology for being a relative stranger here for awhile. I'm afraid I've allowed other pursuits to distract me from some things like this that would have been more fun.

Honestly, I thought a great opportunity with a professional baseball organization's scouting and analysis group was going to succeed in redirecting his career; but, when UNC's "fork in the road" emerged, it was one he couldn't fail to take.

As is so often the case, timing is such an important aspect of the paths we follow.

I'll make certain that Robert's aware of your good wishes.
