Well then let's extend another congratulations to you and your family...I've been following today on cstv while in the firehouse. We're going to be at UI for the Big 10 opener March 30, April 1,2. The family is looking forward to it and I'm sure we'll see your nephew throw.

That should be a fun weekend. One of Jake's HS teammates is a sophomore at Purdue. We don't have quite as long a trip to make as your family, only 45 minutes by car. But looking at schedules, probably won't be in Champaign until Saturday as 18 year-old nephew, Luke, has a HS doubleheader Friday night.

Coach Merc I think my family and I are going to make the Friday and Sunday game the weekend of the Purdue series. I have a double header on Saturday. I look forward to meeting Joe and your family.

Yea CentralIL its should be another good game. We lost a tough one last year. I hate pitching in games like that, where my team can not hit and I am throwing my guts out. I think I gave up 3 hits and we lost 2-0. The conference should be really good this year I think.

It's always been fun watching my nephew's teams play Mattoon teams, at any level. Mattoon teams always good, well coached teams. High School, Legion, Travel ... doesn't matter.

I was able to locate an article on the West website about that game. You did pitch a great game. My nephew Luke actually pitched against you and apparently pitched the game of his life. I think it was 6 hits, 6 strikeouts, one walk, 7 innings complete game.
Just a side note....the kid that drove in the first run and came around for the second on two errors is a freshman at D3 Edgewood College up in Madison, Wisconsin. His name is Alex Berta. Friday night he had Edgewood's game winning RBI in their first win of the season, playing up in the Metrodome.
Looks like you'll be pitching and Coach Merc's son will be catching you for a few years in Champaign. My older nephew, Jake, will be done by then as he is a fifth year senior this year. But he may be hanging around next year as he completes his Masters.
Good luck this spring, except when Normal West comes to town. And make sure you beat Bloomington and Normal Community!

Always has been a great feeling. Hopefully he can get his starts and some victories as this, his final season plays itself out. Then its gonna be a little more than a 45 minute drive to see his younger brother start his college career next year.
