Isn't it possible that we , as parents, expect more from our kids and that it matters not who the hitting instructors are and they will never be good hitters--- and then again there are kids who can get out of bed in the morning , grab a bat and just flat out hit
Simplified but a fact
Infopimp:
I’m surprised you would publicly admit writing that as it was under the Lamber screen name. LOL
You said “I stand by everything I wrote in that post. When you get out of elementary school, you'll understand what was written. And, if you were a catcher like you claim, you'd agree with me.The runners who take an east/west step to get into fair territory, when the catcher is attempting a pickoff, are dead ducks on close plays. Fact. Thank you for the extra step runner........Now, go sit down. And when you coach yells at you, remind him what he taught you.You better go north and south or your dead.BTW, you couldn't have come up with a better "elementary" example of your teachings. Thanks for proving my point.”
LOL! What do the best college and professional 3b base runners do on video? LOL! It’s down in foul, back in fair hoss.

I’m pretty sure my exact words to you were –“Lastly, could YOU please expand on YOUR definition or give a detailed description of a high level swing”?
My definition of the gray area of hitting is “vast confusion” that hitters (and dad/hitting instructors who frequent boards like this) often feel. It’s your friend and my enemy. I don’t have the silver bullet to becoming a great hitter and neither do you two clowns. But I do know more about hitting and teaching it to real players on a real 60/90 field!
The mental side of hitting is not “Malarky” either. It’s also not simply saying “you have to believe you can do it". That’s “confidence”. And confidence can only come from a combination of simple and solid swing mechanics AND a simple and solid mental plate approach. Mental hitting is things like anticipating and capitalizing on fastball counts, hitting the ball where it’s pitched, two strike approach etc.
And situational hitting skills are really more of a team thing. They are not always weak grounder sacrifices either (like I have heard you describe before), but they ARE selfless at bats. And I sure don’t expect either of you clowns to understand selflessness or team chemistry at all. Some move runners. Others score runners from 3b depending on the situation. All are called for and expected on the college and professional level.
But the point I want to make perfectly clear here is that I am not a hitting guru (nor do I desire to be one). Just a simple 45 year old man who has studied hitting more intensely than you two, but more importantly “applied” it to real hitters on a real 60/90 field over a real 10 year period (not some internet laboratory for 5). And being an absolute nobody, can you see why I get upset when you two bash “the establishment” and talk down to others who know as much or more than me?
Spin it anyway you want. And move your middle and cusp your scap all the way to the bank. But if I see you talk down to the good people at Baseball-Excellence or here, I will continue to respond. Count on it. I don’t care which screen name and pass word either of you use that day. (lamber, rShard, teacherman, Blue dog, infopimp, Linear, ?, ?, ?, ?, etc.)

TRHit - I've got to agree with you there. The kid's either got it or they don't. And to expand on that, I don't think there's a "Right" or "wrong" way to hit (or pitch). There's such a vast array of variables in technique that it would be impossible to be perfect. I remember a while back when Mark Prior was at USC or maybe one of his first years pro, but somebody made the comment that his mechanics were as close to perfect as anybody. Unfortunately, that hasn't translated into success.
I think the main reason I like having my son go to a hitting and pitching instructor is for the confidence and learning the game as much as, if not more than learning technique. He learns so much from the those guys just shooting the breeze. It's worth it for me.
Sorry TR

Let me say this
My son who had a very fine Division I career never took a lesson that was paid for--in fact I never even tried to tweak what he was doing becuase it want broke----yet he had a very excellent Major Divison I baseball career--would he have gone further than he did if he took lessons--I do not think so--a 5-11 outfielder with a weak arm is a "fill in player"--he knew that--he took his talent to the best he could have--I could tell you I taught him everything I know but I won't because he was that much better than I was--he had God given ability that I did not--- what I did though was discuss hitting situations with him to increase the alertness of his "baseball brain"
Do I feel it was all successful--I think so
Do I feel I know more than the other guy/ --I know that is not so
Do I know enough to help my son get the best out of his abilities-- D A M N Sure I do

Baseball's largest problem is in this quote.
Baseball is far, far greater than you, blue dog and myself.
What you should have quoted came from the same paragraph. The baseball internet’s largest problem is:
“Spin it anyway you want. And move your middle and cusp your scap all the way to the bank. I don’t care which screen name and pass word either of you use that day. (lamber, rShard, teacherman, Blue dog, infopimp, Linear, ?, ?, ?, ?, etc.)”

You guys bickered through a very important point by TOM concerning the reveral of direction. It IS similar to any cusp. The hips do not coil and uncoil quickly and nether do the hands directional change. It should happen no faster than the torso torque can reverse them and it should be factored into the timing mechanism
"Yes it does so slowly and usually as a continuous circling action, not a back and forth reversal.
