My son is going to an event at the National Training Center in Cary at the end of August. This event will have some D1 schools in attendance.  My son is a Junior.  I know that September 1st allows a coach to speak to potential recruits more but what is the extent of face to face contact prior to that date?  If my son initiates a conversation can they answer questions or is it best for him to leave them alone until after Sept. 1st.   It gets a bit confusing and I don't want to put anyone on the spot with questions they can't answer.

thanks

JLC, 3FG is correct about off-campus contacts, and the Sept. 1 date for e-mails and recruiting correspondence.

Are you sure? I believe there are new rules as of August 1st:

IMO, regardless of the rules...your son should focus on doing his job on the field in Cary and nothing more.  If a coach speaks to him, fine, respond.  Otherwise, stick to his own business.

Questions he may have can be handled by email or him calling them at their office or during an on-campus visit.  An event just isn't the right time, most of the time.

NoVA16, thanks for catching my typo.  I meant to say September 1, but my fingers were typing one thing while my brain was thinking another.  I've gone back and edited my earlier post.

I referenced this rule change in the monthly newsletter which went out to our subscribers on Aug. 2.  The Division I and II recruiting calendars are sent out at the beginning of each month for the upcoming two months for anybody who may be interested in subscribing.
