Converting .avi to MPEG? HELP!

Yes. Convert it to an MPG format. It will compress the file and make it much smaller. Others use GIF Animator (or some other GIF creator software) that seem to make a smaller file, but I don't know how to do that.

Anyone who knows of any good free GIF animator please make a note or PM me as well. I am very new to this , at least I am able to download the video from my camcorder to MovieMaker. I'd like to post clips soon on this board as well.

I use WINDOWS MOVIEMAKER. Works great.

I use Pinnacle Studio 9. Costs $99 and you'll save that in time the first week.

I agree. Why pay for software when Movie Maker works great. I have several other programs that were given to me and they are collecting dust.
Start by editing out the video to get rid of wasted footage.
I have Win XP Multi Media and it has every thng you need.

For analytical purposes WMV files just don't cut it in my opinion. Does Windows Movie Maker allow you to build anything other than WMV files?

I use Pinnacle Studio (9.0) for most of my video editing. If I want to build animated GIF files I use JASC Animation Shop.

The Movie maker recors in 2 formats. WMV and Avi as far as I know. Interplay DVD creator also comes with XP Multi Media and allows you to import and create other file types as well as making it so you can play the DVD on a DVD player.
MM also allows you to down size the file according to your needs such as e-mail etc. For the average person this is more than most will eve use. I am also sure if I wanted to spend the time I could figure ot how to create othe files. I have never needed to do this. As it is the DPI is very low on video so not a big deal.

I was curious what you didn't like about the windows format ?
