DBU and Clemson are playing a weekend series this weekend. Bottom of the 7th my son comes in and gets the final out. Immediately followed by Shoveit4Ks who went out in the 8th.

Both boys wear #44.  Someone’s son punched out the side.  One hint:  it wasn’t mine

Thanks TPM.  I’m about to make a career change after 22 years. We took our 17 year old daughter on the official tour.  I may go back to school and go there!! Talk about a gorgeous campus. Out state tuition is no joke though. Lol.

Man we ran into a buzzsaw from the first inning of the weekend. Not many opportunities for our back of the bullpen guys.

I got to meet Chuck and his wife today between games and just like all the Clemson fans we ran into they are really great folks.

If I had a do over to earn another degree, I would join you! There is just something about a place that has orange paws all over the streets and buildings!

I think that this is going to be the year of the Tiger!

So hesitant to post this as I don’t want to steal the thread or Backstopdad’s thunder. I apologize in advance BSD.

I’ve explained son’s difficult recovery from arm injury. Team really wanted him to assume starter role this season, but he just hasn’t been able to build up required stamina to go 5+ innings. Opening weekend against Notre Dame. They took it to us. That’s all I can say. Son was in BP game 1, top of 9th to come in and close, but he wasn’t needed. Game 3, we are down 3 runs and he comes in. Pitches pretty good but gives up grand slam. He wasn’t bummed. Said he hit his spot down and away, kid just somehow put a good swing on the ball. I didn’t say anything to son, but I struggled all week. I just sulked and had a pity party wondering to God if this just wasn’t meant to be.

Son threw 2/3 of inning in midweek game and looked good on TV. A ranked Texas team heading to BR this weekend. I made the 7 hour drive back out again. Game 1 son throws 1 inning and looks good. Very low pressure outing as we were up 10-2.

Last night, top of 8, leadoff walk. Son is brought in with us up 7-5. We had been down 5-0 into the 5th where we tied it and eventually scored 2 more in 7th. Very electric atmosphere at The Box, super regional type. Passed ball runner advanced to 2nd. Struck out 9 hole batter on changeup that he and catcher were crossed up on, runner advanced to 3rd. Walks leadoff. K’s next batter on nasty inside curve, but not before the batter turned on a hanging 1-0 change up and hit it about 350 ft just foul down the left field line. Flashbacks to last weekend were VERY fresh in my mind. Here is where it gets special.

Three hole hitter up. Son of hall of famer, Roger Clemens. Kid is a HARD out. .529 average on season. 2 for 3 so far tonight with an intentional walk his last AB. Son falls behind 3-0. Couple of questionable calls, but it’s baseball right?  I’m thinking they are gonna put him on as the next guy is batting .130 and is 0 for the night. FB strike 3-1. FB fouled off 3-2. FB fouled off 3-2. Then with Roger Clemens looking on, kid does his best Roger Clemens impersonation with perfectly placed outside FB at 91 and rang up the Rocket’s kid to get out of the inning.

My son is typically low emotion. He let out a fist pump and primal yell that had his chest still hurting an hour after the game. I HATE to toot my kids horn, but that was the greatest moment in his college career to date, even better than his outing against UF in CWS finals last year. I’m not sure what the future holds for my kid, but last night was simply extasy. It was the most tense yet, at the same time, most fun position I’ve ever seen him in. There were tears flowing. There were hugs. As low as I was last weekend, it made last night even sweeter. Look, I understand this is baseball. He may get rocked his next outing. Honestly, I hope that may be the boost of self-confidence that he needed. I guess time will tell.

BSD, again I apologize for stealing your post.

It’s all good.  My son’s really good friend and my best fishing buddy was the kid on deck for UT in that situation.   His dad and two of our really good friends went on a guys trip over for that series.

I was talking to one of my best friends who was one of my son’s summer coaches and biggest supporters on their drive to Baton Rouge.  We were commenting on how surreal it was that the boys were headed to SEC and ACC schools for top 25 matchups at the same time.

So this is your kid?  I saw this on twitter yesterday and appreciated the emotion. Cool to know it’s someone here’s boy.

It was good to meet up with Jamie and talk some baseball and stuff. Cool that our kids wear Fours. Glad both got in. Baseball is a small world. I met chefmike last year when we played Wright state and now Jamie.

YG, your welcomed to threadjack anytime there’s good news about your kid! Glad he’s back and I know the feeling you spoke about. Congrats!

now it’s on to Columbia, Greenville and Clemson next weekend to play the Gamecocks. I hope our bats stay hot.
