Funneldrill or someone else who understands school contracts: Why are the DFW schools who have baseball postitions to fill waiting so long to hire and announce their "winner". My understanding is public school personel have until june to sign the following year's contract. Doesn't these late hirings create a problem for the person accepting the position, as well as the school they are leaving?

A teacher/coach has 45 days before the first day of instruction to resign his/her position (Usually around July 8th or so). The guy who took the Coppell job is leaving a very good job (if my source is correct...and usually is) to do so and his opening will be filled with no problem.

Hope this helps.

He is leaving a good job that will get many applicants as well. However, when you drag it out like Coppell did you force the next school to have to hurry to beat that deadline. That school may lose some possible applicants because of how quick this one will go. However, with the success they have had the last 5 years I am sure they will be fine.

I agree, but in Coppell's defense they cannot be worried about the school the coach is leaving. They needed to make sure they had the right guy for their job. I also agree that they will have ZERO problems finding a great coach.

It is tougher, as hornfan mentioned, in these financial times to just hire a coach and take care of the teaching field later, but I do not believe that was the case with Coppell.

Murph, not my place to say.
Tx
I agree that they cant worry about the next school but it does make it hard on the others. Its very safe to say there were numerous big names talked to and that caused the delay. Its typical in this type of job to have candidates pull out and that causes delays too.
As for the new school. I think they will get some good canidates as well, but I think your wrong in saying they will have Zero issues.

Murph: Its not that hard to figure out..Its a school close by.
Absolutely the best news I have heard in ages about English getting the ax!!! We don't live in Texas anymore so I'm not up to speed on current events but I agree with Rick and all of the others that this should have happened years ago. English is simply a bold faced liar and he deserves what he got - he is the biggest hypocrite about "God" and the way he runs his life that I have ever come across - living his lies has gotten him his just rewards. The way he coached and ran the program was simply an example of turning a triple into a single as far as success. He had the quality of players to achieve significantly more than he did. I told him and I'll tell everyone else he simply couldn't "cowboy (man) up" to his actions. The way he prostitutes his faith is horrible - how can any true believer follow his BS?

If any of the misguided souls out there want any specific examples just ask me specific questions.

Being the person who judges these kinds of things seems an awesome responsibility. You sure you're up for it ?
When my oldest son was being recruited by colleges, Coach English took the time to call back the schools that wanted an outside coaches opinion about my son. My son played on a district rival team and Coach English took his own time to give a college positive feedback on someone who was not even on his own team. We saw him as a man who cared about all players in general and would help when he could.

Obviously if you knew half about the religion of Christianity you wouldn't have made some of your statements above. What he does and says is between him and god. He will face judgement one day before god for everything he has done as all of us will do. Ultimately his faith is his business regardless of what it seems on the outside. You're not a fan of Coach English, we get it. Grow up.
