I can't imagine how this would fly w/the UIL since we had a similar situation at Marcus several years ago with a Football player and the results were loss of game time and some coaches got into hot water.

But,,,,,,,,, in this case the said player's family are/were in the legal business so I would imagine all the i's have been doted and the t's crossed. Will be interesting to see how this turns out.

Train: Just a thought since I opened this thread thinking it was about a select team or a thread about a Coppell player making a college committment I think I would change the title of this thread to something like: Coppell News-New Student or New Transfer, the word New Signing just sounds a bit like recruiting. Just a thought.

Also, for those wondering about the UIL policy here is what the UIL site states:

Eligibility for Athletic Contests
meet all the requirements above,

are less than 19 years old on September 1 preceding the contest or have been granted eligibility based on a disability that delayed their education by at least one year,

live with their parents inside the school district attendance zone their first year of attendance (see your school administrator for exceptions),

have not moved or changed schools for athletic purposes,

have not violated the athletic amateur rule, and

were eligible according to the fifteen day rule and the residence rule prior to district certification.
Train,
I thought you were one who says "no sophomores make any real difference on varsity"

This kid could not get into the starting lineup at FM thus the reason for transferring. He was also a big disruption in the baseball lockerroom and not a team player.

This is a case of mommy and daddy enabling their son and not being happy with playing time, nothing more nothing less. We wish him nothing but the best and hope that mommy is there for him when something else upsets him or doesn't go his way later in life.

Train: I think you had it right the first time. No need to change the title.

BTW - If the FM coach believes the player transfered due to athletic purposes, it will be reviewed by the DEC for a decision on eligibility. This will be an interesting one to watch!

You crack me up! Big Grin

BAAAAAAACK: Up and leaving a High School team midseason then going across the tracks to a district rival just doesn't sound good no matter how you spin it.

What ever happened to the term "finish what you started"?

If things weren't working out for the player (starting/not starting)then why didn't he just finish it out then cash out? Guess that is a question only they can answer.... hope it works out for them....

After watching Coppell the last few games they could use him. They will be losing a lot of quality players to graduation. If he was not playing, what difference does it make?

My understanding is that '07 brother remains at FM -- who would move their senior to another school with 6 weeks until graduation?

There are scores of kids that change summer teams, some do it annually -- let's cut them a little slack here. As I understand it, the kid doesn't lack summer playing time. Of course, I am more up on the '08s. Wink

Heck, I think he should have gone to Prestonwood or TCA.

PD,

It is no skin off my nose either way, but what happened to teaching a kid a life lesson by fighting for playing time and working to make your home program successful, instead of running to the next team to the right and hoping to get PT handed to you?

T-Bird Son's team is having a tough year. The other day, he told me he wants to help make the team stronger the rest of this year and the next two...wouldn't transfer if I stuck a gun to his head...just different strokes for different folks I guess.
TB-D -- I agree with you -- and am not suggesting that it is a good practice to take your ball and go home --- or in this case to take your ball and change homes......but, I know little about this specific circumstance. I suppose the district coaches may have a hand in the decision on whether the transfer student can play this year.

I admire your son for his approach to tough times.

Waiting to hear if its true. Saw him at our game last night along with many of the FM team.

This can help us MEATSDAD. Would you not agree?

Train,

I don't know who you are but you say you are a friend. Introduce yourself to me at the next game and we can talk about this kid off line.

Everyone else, let's remember even if we aren't using this kids name he is still a 16 yr old boy.

His parent got a divorce and he had to change schools....even if he wanted to or not that is still a very big deal.

Let's back off and think about this kid, I don't care about his parents.

Also, this kid is much more a big time QB than a baseball player. Yes, he is a high potential baseball player but he wasn't their #1 starting pitcher and he had several players to split time with in the outfield.

I think he moved because it might be the best thing for the family including the young man.

As for helping Coppell this year. I don't see a spot for him on Varsity were he will get any more playing time than what he was getting at FM.

So again, I doubt this move was just for baseball / sports.

Also, Coach Fuller ( Coppell Football )was at the baseball game last night...I think that might be a first. Especially at an away game.

In the long run it can never hurt to have a young talented athlete in the program. I wish him the best.
I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that it is the mother, not the dad that is moving immediately. She is married, and the move is convenient for the step-father as well. From what I understand, this is occurring as we speak (it's a little more than just an apartment). I was under the belief that the father was possibly moving in the summer.

As to the other boys, one of them is a senior and it would be rather foolish to have him leave the high school he has spent nearly 4 years at. The other one is in middle school, and there's is little reason not to let him finish this year. Concerning the player in question, it only makes sense to move now as opposed to later. If he does indeed face the 1-year penalty, he could join the team this time next year instead of missing the whole season.

I'm sure that the football team can find a place for the quarterback that beat them last year, and I don't know about baseball. He may not have a spot now, so any senior parents shouldn't feel too threatened, and he definitely brings some young talent that will help Coppell in the future.

My information extends a bit beyond just this, but out of respect, I don't believe much of it really needs to be known. I feel I should remind many people here that they are indeed adults and maybe their conjectures are best left off this site.

Edit*
I think it should also be clear that what happened with Nick Stephen 2 years ago, is a different situation. He was transferring within LISD, whereas this one is not

Believe me he will be welcome but as for this year I doubt Coach English would mess with the chemistry.

The pitching staff is fine, actually the roles are becoming more and more refined while...yes, we wait for Cole to return.

If the boy in question was fast becoming the 2 or 3 then FM is in more trouble than I thought from a pitching stand point. But I don't think that is the case, Bruening seems to be more reliable.

The boy in question is a fine athlete but didn't make it out of the 3rd and then the 4th inning the last two outings and was a bit wild.

With Coach English it is all about trust, he has to know a pitcher before he gives him a shot and then the pitcher has to earn the trust and walks get you the hook.

Things would have to go really bad for several boys (including my own) between now and the April 13 game against Newman Smith for him to get a shot.

I do still believe that the UIL and the District will let him play this year. This is a non-sports driven move and if the UIL penalized every kid who's parent got a divorce or had to go live with an aunty or uncle in a different DISD school zone there would be a lot of kids sitting out.

It will be nice to have an extra outfielder and bat of the bench.

Honestly, I agree. The kid is a good athlete and should be welcome at Coppell. He's leaving on good terms with most people at FMHS, so let's just let him have his shot. He's certainly not hurting the team. At the very least, let's try to be a little more respectful of the position he's in, as most of us don't understand it.

Even with a total lack of understanding however, diamondgirl appears ready to spew venom wherever she can.
